		Forchheim is a large district city in Franconia in northern Bavaria, and also the seat of the administrative region of Upper Franconia (Oberfranken in German).
		Forchheim is a former royal city, and is sometimes called the “Gateway to the Franconian Switzerland”, as the region is known.
		On 6 September 1802, Forchheim was occupied by Bavarian troops and annexed to the Electorate of Bavaria.

		The city of Forchheim lost its status as a district-free city and became the capital.
