The Mondeo is produced at Ford's European plants in Germany and Belgium, as a sedan (saloon), hatchback or wagon (estate).
In response to Ford's claim that it was a 'world car', Ford dealers retorted 'What world was it designed for?' The Contour and Mystique proved unpopular with US buyers, who preferred the larger local model, the Taurus, and was dropped in 2000.
This platform will also form the basis of the replacement for the Galaxy MPV (CD340) sold in Europe, but not the new Ford Fusion in the US or the Mazda 6 in Japan.

Ford wished to continue the style leadership it virtually owned in the mid-'80's, so it freshened up the Cat in 1987 with flush glass and headlamps, while still retaining the same basic shape.
But Ford engineers were promising that the 5.0 was on the way, and none too soon: it was very evident early on that this Cat was a little overweight.

Platform = CD1 (this is Ford’s internal code for their new product development realisation of platforms and it covers all carlines).
Without changing the platform the most major change to a platform is a re-skin — where the whole outer sheet changes and perhaps some minor changes are made to the floorpan and engine compartment.
A less drastic change to the same platform is a major facelift (but this is still a major change); for example the change from the Toyota Carina to the Avensis where the front and rear changed substantially.

And with Jaguar yet to make any real money for Ford, despite a decade of massive investment in new product and facilities, a bespoke platform for X-Type was simply out of the question.
The actual figure probably depends on the precise definition of "component" and "sharing." As late as October 1998, planning proposals called for 45 percent of X-Type parts or systems to be carryover or modified CD132.
