The FordCorsair manufactured by Ford Motor Company in the United Kingdom was a medium-sized family car available as either a saloon (sedan) or estate (station wagon) from 1964 until 1970.
The Corsair was replaced by the new modelCortina, the Mk 3, in 1970, at which time the enlarged Cortina became Ford's middle-sized car, and a new smaller model, the Escort filled in the size below.
Between 1989 and 1992, the Corsair name was also used by Ford in Australia for an unusually restyled version of Nissan's Pintara, under a model-sharing scheme known as the Button Plan.

Ford Telstar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
The FordTelstar was an automobile sold by the Ford Motor Company in Asia, Australasia and Africa, comparable in size to the European FordSierra and the American FordTempo.
The Telstar was dropped by Ford of Japan in 1999, as the company sought to differentiate itself from Mazda by concentrating on European and American Fordmodels.
Local assembly of the Telstar was short-lived, and for a while the model was almost replaced by the FordCorsair, which was simply a facelifted version of the Nissan Pintara, as the two companies were sharing models under the Button Plan.
The FordCorsair graced the streets of GB and beyond in the 1960's and early 1970's.
Corsair memory for one's computer, is superfast, super-reliable and among the best there is. So even if you are not a computer buff, it's worth finding out a little bit more.
Corsair was the first new Ford to be produced by the recently constructed Halewood Plant and personal recollections include the commendably quiet and smooth running, while the ‘zero-torque’ door catches (shared with other contemporary Fords) enabled door closing to be achieved with total silence and very little effort.
The character of the Corsair was totally changed in October 1965 when the quite refined in-line four was replaced by the Transit vans rather lumpy V4 in either 1663cc or 1994cc sizes.
Bright-work on the real Corsair is limited to discreet strips and badges here and there, like the full-length narrow band along the sharp edge of the body side that cleverly incorporates the equally slender door handles.
Ford had been known for its cheap cars, and while they were trying to flog the Classic, BMC were sticking out things like the Mini, which was even cheaper than the Anglia, and had its 1100 around the corner.
Ford literature at the time boasted that all the air in the car was replaced every 40 seconds.
When the Cortina was launched, Ford had a 2.6% slice of the market with English fours, and by 1965 this had risen to 3.6%, with 15,500 Cortinas being sold.
The GTCorsair had remote gear change and bucket seats as standard, together with a tachometer, centre consol, servo assisted brakes and stiffer suspension, together with GT badges and other visual indicators.
The V4 Corsair was introduced in October 1965, initially giving the choice of a 1.7 litre De Luxe and a 2.0 litre GT.
Ford Germany began producing examples of the Model T and A in Berlin, but in 1931 the operation was moved to Cologne, where the German Ford headquarters remain to this day.
The integration of European Ford production started in 1968 with the introduction of the Escort compact car, which was made in the UK as well as Belgium.
However in 2002 Ford resurrected the name to be used on a new 2 seater car that had many retro styling features of the original cars.

Ford Corsair V4 GT - Practical Classics(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
The Corsair had been relatively successful for Ford and so it was decided to develop the range to include a new engine.
The 1965 Corsair range used a brand new V4 engine, a first for Ford and an unusual choice of engine layout.
Power output for the GT was quoted as 88bhp, a useful 12bhp increase over the standard car but not as powerful as the 2.0 litre 2000E model that was to follow.

We are fortunate to have as our President Mr Charles Thompson, who designed the Corsair, and we also have a Technical Adviser who works for the Ford Motor Company, who is available to answer technical queries.
The blood type AB was also discovered in the FordCorsair and in the hallway of the ground floor, where Lady Lucan said she was attacked.
The blood type in which the shoe impression was made matched that of Sandra Rivett’s, type B. Fibers found at the crime scene and in the FordCorsair became one of the main focuses of the inquest.
Grayish-blue-colored woolen fibers were found in the FordCorsair, the basement, Lady Lucan’s bathroom sink, on a blood-stained bath towel and on the lead pipe supposedly used in the attack on Sandra and Lady Lucan.
With drum brakes, cart springs all round and the often derided 2000cc Essex V4 petrol engine which was shared by some Ford Corsairs,Capris and Zephyrs, driving one of these early transits it is like stepping back in time a few decades,.
The near side door step.Front wheel and door removed to make life easier, step was loose and rusted through at the front edge.It was obvious this had been repaired a few times in the past.
The V4 Mk 1 Transit was current from 1965 to about 76 when it became the Mk 2, along with other mods the petrol engines were changed to the OHC inline fours.Very early (to about 68) models had different clutches, after 1970 the pedal assembly was completely changed and moved from the floor to the bulkhead.

The Falcons shown at the top of this thread were done by Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) who are a factory supported do-up company.
Ford had a Falcon Ute (XR6, I think) on display at their Centennial in Dearborn in 2003.
I heard second hand that Ford though there was a North American market for the vehicle, but they didn't think that they had enough capasity in Australia to build enough.
