Ford County (standard abbreviation: FO) is a county located in the state of Kansas.
In the county the population is spread out with 31.10% under the age of 18, 11.20% from 18 to 24, 29.40% from 25 to 44, 17.30% from 45 to 64, and 11.00% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county is $37,860, and the median income for a family is $42,734.

 Ford County
Ford County is the southwesternmost (sic) organized county of Kansas, embracing Townships 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29 of Ranges 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26, being thirty miles from north to south and thirty-six miles from east to west, possessing an area of 1,080 square miles.
Ford County was at first the One Hundred and Third Representative District; by the Legislative apportionment of 1876, it became the One Hundred and Twenty-second; by that of 1881, it was the One Hundred and Eighteenth District.
The site of the Ford County court house is a beautiful one, standing on the rise north from Broadway, where the beautiful valley of the Arkansas is seen for miles east and west of the city.

In January 1992, the Ford County (Kansas) Health Department received a report of a pregnant woman with a positive serologic test for syphilis.
The primary patient was a male who traveled frequently to Wyandotte County, Kansas (in the Kansas City metropolitan area), which reported a 290% increase in early syphilis from 1990 (48 cases) through 1991 (187 cases).
Editorial Note: The cases of syphilis in Ford County, a rural area, reflect national trends for the occurrence of this problem and are of concern for three reasons.

 FORD COUNTY
On October 14th, 1872 a petition was sent to the Governor of Kansas, James M. Harvey, that the area known now as Ford County was believed to have 600 bona fide inhabitants.
The Proclamation of Governor Thomas A. Osborn, declaring that Ford County was organized, was received in April of 1873.
Ford County was named in honor of Col. James H. Ford, of the Second Colorado Cavalry, Commander at Fort Dodge, the most important military outpost on the Santa Fe Trail.
