Ford SHO V6 engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The SHO engines share a common bellhousing pattern with the following Ford engines: the 2.3/2.5L FWD HSC I4, the 3.0L FWD/RWD Vulcan V6, and the 3.8 FWD Canadian Essex V6.
It was an iron block, aluminum head 24-valve DOHC engine with innovative (for the time) variable length intake manifold.
This engine was replaced with the SHO V8 for 1996.

Ford Taurus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Note that the best-selling vehicle remained the Ford F-150 during this period, and that a number of other vehicles also ranked higher then the Taurus, because the vehicle category defined as a 'car' is not the best-selling type.
Ford hoped the radical redesign would lead to the same success it had had with the 1986 Taurus.
The Ford Taurus is suceeded by the 2005 Ford Five Hundred and the 2006 Ford Fusion.

DOHC. Who is DOHC? What is DOHC? Where is DOHC? Definition of DOHC. Meaning of DOHC.
A double overhead cam (or DOHC) engine is a type of internal combustion engine where the camshafts that operate the valves are mounted above the cylinders, operating the valves directly, and where there are seperate camshafts for inlet and exhaust valves.
In engines with more than one cylinder bank, such as the V engine, this designation means two camshafts per bank.
When the DOHC concept was introduced, it was common for the first such engine from a manufacturer to be known as the DOHC engine; for instance, Ford's new DOHC straight-4 in the late 1980s.

Ford Racing Performance Parts [Cammer Engine]
Although the DOHC technology employed in mainstream production engines is almost commonplace today, the technical procedures to machine and assemble a modern DOHC engine is rather complex.
Engine oil has a dye added to it that shows up under a fl light to reduce the possibility of undetected leaks.
Ford Racing Performance Parts' "Cammer" motor is the ultimate high-performance derivative of the Ford 4.6-liter engine.

 Ford Engine Swap Tips
The easiest way to classify Ford engines is by their mounts and rear block-face bolt patterns.
All small-blocks except the “Modified” series use the same engine mounts and bellhousing, except early-’62–’65 engines have a five-bolt rear block-face bolt pattern instead of the later six-bolt pattern.
All small-blocks are externally balanced, so be sure to use the correct harmonic balancer and flexplate/flywheel for the application in question: Pre-’81 302 (and smaller) engines and all 351 engines require a flywheel or flexplate with 28.2-ounce unbalance; ’81-and-up 302 engines require a flywheel or flexplate with 50.0-ounce unbalance.

This is important because as engine weight is increased, the ride height lowers in the front and this produces extreme negative camber at the front wheels.

 Aluminum Now Online
Relatively little fanfare was made earlier this year when Ford began shipping its first-ever all-aluminum truck engine in a production model—Ford Ranger's 2.3-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC) I4—perhaps because the buzz surrounding the release of the 2001 model had already subsided with its unveiling months earlier.
That engine is now standard issue on 2-wheel drive versions of the 2002 model of America's best-selling compact pickup, as well as on Mazda's B-series compact trucks—and serves as an example of what industry observers believe may culminate in a widespread shift to aluminum truck engines by the major U.S. auto manufacturers.
According to industry observers, improvements of that magnitude have both Ford and General Motors scrambling to incorporate aluminum into ever-greater numbers of their light truck engines over the next five years.

Most of the engines used in hi-performance race cars and race boats today, are modified from the engines designed for Detroit production automobiles in the 1950s and 60s.
The engines are based on an overhead valve head design with two valves per cylinder, driven by a single camshaft in the block through varied arrangements of tappets and push rods.
Starting with the valve train, for example, newer engine designs all use overhead cams proven to be less stressful by doing away with problems related to push rods and tappets.
