Developed in the late 1980s by the Ford Motor Company, the Ford Zeta engine was a straight-4, double overhead cam internal combustion engine with which Ford had intended to replace the analogous Pinto and CVH models.
Ford designed the Zeta to share some parts with other Ford engine developments at the time, including the smaller Sigma I4 and Duratec V6.
The final Zeta Zetec was produced on December 10, 2004 at the Bridgend factory with over 3,500,000 built at that location.

The all new Escort was meant to be fitted with the all new Zetec (then called Zeta) engine but unfortunatly with the car being rushed out it wasnt ready, therefore the power was supplied by the trusty CVH until late 1992 when the first Zetec powered escort were released (along with minor body changes).
Though it had very little in common with its 70's predesessor, the 16v I4 engine was a strong power house producing 150 bhp coupled with an excellent chassis, and in the right hands became a more than capable car.
Unfortunatly for the RS2000 Ford decided to release the mighty Escort Cosworth a few months later, which went onto win rallies and become a legend in its own lifetime leaving the RS2000 far back in its shadow.
