The Navy also awarded Fore River shipyard a contract for the first turbine-driven battleship, the North Dakota of the "Delaware class." She displaced 22,000 tons and was of the dimensions 518' x 85' x 27'.
Fore River shipyard built naval vessels as fast and as well as it could, given the conditions of the time.
Fore River shipyard ended up building such things as a 28' diameter blast furnace containing some 2,500 tons of steel, a group of 40 ton turbine rotors, and a wind tunnel with a nozzle speed of mach 3 for the Navy.

 Legendary Lighthouses: Great Lighthouses-Maine
Built by authorization of George Washington: Maine’s oldest light, Portland Head, was originally authorized in 1787 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
(Maine didn’t become a separate state from Massachusetts until 1820.) It would have been the 12th colonial light, but Massachusetts had fallen hard times and couldn’t afford to complete the project.
She lived in Seguin Island Light from 1926-30, where she recalled in the first winter, coal supply was exhausted before Spring and she had to dig up the sand by the dock to look for pieces that had fallen when it was delivered in the spring.

 Maine Water Conference 2005 Estuaries:Where Rivers Meet the Sea
To better understand the emigration ecology of Atlantic salmon smolts in eastern Maine rivers, we tracked salmon smolts in the Narraguagus River using ultrasonic tags and a large array of fixed receivers that monitored fish movements from river kilometer 7.65 seaward into the Gulf of Maine.
In spring 2003, a series of instruments was placed in the Narraguagus River and surrounding regions to collect data on current patterns, water levels, temperature, and salinity to calibrate and verify the numerical model.
The modeling efforts have proved useful in developing critical insights on the processes affecting Atlantic salmon emigration dynamics in eastern Maine and in identifying mortality factors constraining the recovery of the populations.

Depicts the Androscoggin River and Merrymeeting Bay, the City of Bath on the Kennebec River, Arrowsic, Georgetown, Westport, Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor, Bristol, the Sheepscot River, Damariscotta, Wiscasset, Edgecomb and Somerville.
The course of the Penobscot River is shown flowing southward from Edinburg, Argyle, Old Town, Bangor and Hamden to Penobscot Bay, Islesboro, North Haven and Vinal Haven.

The Million Dollar Bridge was a bascule bridge built in 1916 which carried traffic on Route 77 over the Fore River in Maine between Portland and South Portland.
Originally owned by Cumberland County, the bridge was transferred to the Maine Department of Transportation in 1959.
In 1993, construction began on the higher Casco Bay Bridge; the new bridge is on a new alignment just east of the original bridge, and is also a bascule bridge.

She thought it was thanks to her recent green reading focus, but I felt it was thanks to the barely audible Bachman Turner Overdrive in the background.
You may not have caught wind of it since the Maine Amatuer was going on at the same time in Portland, but we had the best female golfers in New England here for three days of golf.
