Wagtail ( khanjon) long-tailed, sparrow-sized, songbirds related to the pipits, bearing outer white feathers, frequenting streams and stagnant water and feeding on seeds, insects, worms, small molluscs, and crustaceans.
The wagtails are named for their habit of bobbing their tails, and are usually found near riverbanks and in moist grassland.
The nests are made of moss, grass and roots, with a lining of hair and feathers; four to six eggs are laid, bluish-white or brown, with yellow marks.

The remaining wagtail is Forest Wagtail Dendronanthus indicus of the eastern Palearctic.
Mountain Wagtail, and a fair number of other wagtails, are long-tailed motacilids adapted for feeding along rushing streams, surging rivers, or other wetlands, rather than the open grasslands used by many pipits.
Those wagtails and pipits breeding at high latitudes are very migratory, and because they have long migration routes, mistaken trajectories by individual birds can spin off vagrants.

Sushkin discovered it near Minusinsk on the edges of mixed forests in the foothills of the Sayan Mountains but failed to locate it on the Abakan steppe or in the Achinsk District (Sushkin 1914).
In Yenisey mid taiga, the Citrine Wagtail is a common migrant but a rare breeder.

After a poor nights sleep with a painful headache, it had thankfully gone for the next early morning walk into the forest.
Walking back to the camp with lunch in mind, we chanced upon a Forest Wagtail, which by all accounts is a difficult bird to see.

In the forests you should find most of the specials including Spotted Thrush, Knysna Woodpecker, Grey Cuckooshrike, Bluemantled Flycatcher, Narina Trogon, Forest Canary, Brown Robin, Starred Robin, Natal Robin and Chorister Robin.
A good selection of the forest specials should be easily located in and around the campsite and chalets.

The varied biotope of the last remaining primeval forest in Europe at Bialowieza, the vast Siemianówka reservoir and the marshes of the Biebrza River guarantees indeed a large variety of rare birds in large quantities.
None of that: a forest in its natural balance is nicer than a managed forest.
All yellow wagtails were carefully observed, because the Citrine wagtail used to breed in this area, unfortunately.

After about two hours patiently spent peering into the darkening recesses of the forest and chasing after the birds, following their calls, Debs finally flushed a pair along the road our way back to the car and we all managed to get some brief but clear views of the male.
Upon arriving at Debegeni Falls, we looked around for any wagtails, and after about five minutes, David called out and we were joined, on the section downstream of the suspension bridge and above the steep fall into the lower pool, by two pairs of Mountain (Long-tailed) Wagtail and the single Grey Wagtail.
We spent the next hour following the Grey Wagtail around as it fed along the edges of the main stream and up into the smaller side streams - lovely little bird, with quite a combination of colours and shades, as well as a tail that is noticeably longer that both Yellow and Cape Wagtails.

This was a nice place and it entailed a walk along a causeway with paddyfields and marsh on the left and an area of water and tidal mangroves on the right.
We walked into the forest which was magnificent, with huge trees, scrub and Bamboo thickets interspersed with open areas.
This is a Hindu Shrine set in the forest, with hills on the front and left as you walk in.

Crossing the river from the hotel to the forest had to be done (several times) in quite indescribable small boats.
He went into the forest alone and achieved the unheard-of result of finding a pair (one gray, one rufous) snuggled together on a daytime roost high in a dense leafy tangle--with one small gap which allowed us to focus a scope for a fantastic close-up.
Getting into the forest by 6 or 7 AM means getting up at 2:30 or 3:30, having a good breakfast (miraculously achievable in Asia) before leaving, and then arriving back at the hotel at 9 PM or later for dinner--and having to do it all again the next day!
