		Forever Young: (Jerry Goldsmith) Both poetic and coated with about as much sugar as humanly possible, Forever Young is a fantasy love story that goes so far with its exploits of romanticism that it even throws in some 1930's locale and soaring propeller airplanes.
		For collectors who keep the Forever Young album tucked someplace accessible on their CD shelves, the main enticement is the love theme for the film.
		The Brad Dechter soprano sax arrangement of this theme at the start of the album is a mushy extension of Goldsmith's original version incorporated into the final cue of John Barry proportions, and the theme is appropriately downplayed in the middle portion of the score.

		The second side of the album was a different matter, including four lengthy acoustic songs whose undogmatic political, social and personal concerns are illuminated with the rich poetic imagery that would become another trademark.
		Dylan's 1978 album Street Legal was lyrically one of his more complex and absorbing; it suffered, however, from a poor sound mix (attributed to his studio recording practices), submerging much of its instrumentation in the sonic equivalent of cotton wadding until its remastered CD release nearly a quarter century later.

		Seems like they're tight with their money too because Young Forever has some pretty basic production values, though this is all to the good because it proves that some of the best music doesn't need to drown in effects or have a 100-piece orchestra behind it.
		The album as a whole is strangely uplifting, despite the subject matter dwelling on lost love.
		A criticism of the album might be that it's too similar throughout, but that is to not listen closely enough.

		I think the reason why The Pretenders albums of today don't compare with the early stuff is the songwriting.
