The Royal Burgh of Forfar is a burgh of approximately 13,500 people, located in the unitary authority of Angus in Scotland.
The town is also the market town for the lowland farms of Strathmore in central Angus.
A "claimant" to the throne, the daughter of the leader of the MacWilliam Clan, who claimed descent from the Royal House of King Duncan II, had her brains dashed out on Forfar market cross in 1215 while still an infant.

Forfar Castle was used as a base by Malcolm II for raising an army to repel the Danish invaders under Camus, resulting in victories at Aberlemno and Barry in the year 1012.
It has been suggested that the burghers of Forfar utilised the ruins of the Castle as a source of prepared stone for building the original Steeple, the west entry to the old Parish Church and a large number of houses in the town.
Situated at the point where the road leading to the Castle of Forfar joined the main highway through Strathmore from Perth to the north, the Mercat Cross in early times was the traditional centre for the transaction of business and the focus for the life of the town.

We travelled up to Forfar and checked in to the luxurious Royal Hotel (sauna, spa, swimming pool etc.).
Forfar has a number of excellent pubs but the one that we made our own (literally if our societies name is anything to go by) was the Osnaburg Tavern.
Some of the most fantastic golf courses in Scotland are to be found in this area and we sampled a number of them.
