True, comics are a popular art, and yes, I believe their primary obligation is to entertain, but comics can go beyond that, and when they do, they move from silliness to significance.
The comic strip came into being as a staff-produced graphic, and comics have never escaped the perception that they are a newspaper "feature," like a weather reap, instead of a forum for individual expression.
Comic books originally started as reprints of newspaper comics, and they were so popular an industry was created to produce new comic books to fill the demand.

But the thing that's REALLY funny about this comic strip is the fact that about a week after I posted this strip, a bug appeared in the game in which people's ship claim-tickets were turning back into full-sized ships in their backpacks, rendering them immobile due to the weight.
This comic strip was made right after there was a huge debate on the message boards and the like about a GM abusing the invulnerability flag with his player-character.
I was thus able to make a new comic strip based on it that didn't use any of the new graphics or give anything away, but was still funny to the beta testers and to the non-testers alike.

In the case of all but Gilgamesh (who was decked out in his Forgotten One space armor because it's the only visual for this character that Perez liked), it's a return to their original look (well, in Hawkman's case, his original look in the new continuity).
He's been largely absent from most Justice League comics for years now (including the first two issues of this mini-series), but for the better part of two decades, he was a Justice League mainstay and the team's resident stretchable superhero.
Beast's situation is rather similar to that of Elongated Man. Both were longtime key players in their respective teams, both were comic relief figures, and both were cut off from these groups in later years (though in Beast's case the split began much sooner, in the early 1980s).

The truth is that comic book fans continue to read comics after the age of 14 because there is actually product out there that appeals to their tastes and ages.
The reason why girls leave comics after they become too old for Archie is that there are few to no comics out there that they can easily access (you know, like at a checkout stand).
Because the adult female reader doesn’t seem to exist as far as comic book publishers go (especially the mainstream), I have to put up with a dungheap of sexism at nearly every corner because I am forced to read comics that are always written by males for males.

There are the well-known loud people in comics, and there are the quiet people in comics.
Comics are #1 - in my personal opinion, the other is soap operas, which cater to women, and the third would be wrestling, where you get a story every few days, and it's an evolving series of storylines.
To play devil's advocate, comic properties are probably better known to the public then they were then, and steps are being taken to grow the industry, such as Free Comic Book Day.

Though Robert Crumb (then in his mid-teens) later became one of the most important and influential artists in underground comics, this venture was hardly a success; indeed, the brothers later burned most of the existing copies in disgust.
However, very few copies of this comic actually circulated, and students of Crumb's `oeuvre' have established that this title was a reference to the earlier Smokey Stover comics.

It's a fantasy genre project set in the Forgotten Realms that can be converted to be a free-standing property.
While I think the earlier comment of this not fitting the Forgotten Realms style might be correct, that does not mean it does not fit someone's style.
What I'm gonna do is write the first three chapters of this and of Red California both and then outline each completely with 3-sentence chapter outlines as though it were going to be a full-on novel.

Good Girl comics are a genre that go back to World War II and the glory days of comic books.
Wertham viewed comics as a major influence in the corruption of the youth of the 50's, thus when he looked at a comic he saw it in terms of sexual perversion, graphic violence, lawlessness, drugs and such.
This is quite in keeping with the traditions of the pulps and comics of the day, where the covers were often spiced up as compared to the actual content of the magazine.

Comic Books and Graphic Novels (essentially the same thing) are media that cross the categories of literature and visual art.
It seems comic books are being forced across the media divide into film more frequently as of late, for better or for worse.
Some of the better comics into film are Superman (the original from long ago), Batman, and especially both X-Men films.

It wasn’t until I was sitting in Kevin Cheng (one half of the OK/Cancel team) and Jane Jao’s excellent Communicating Concepts through Comics session at the recent IA Summit that I realized I’d forgotten how important this type of prototyping really is to the design process.
Comic strips, even poorly drawn ones (the only kind I can do), allow us to focus on the experience the user has with the design and get feedback during the early concept and discovery stages, where the broad brush strokes are being worked out.
