 Eye Weekly - The world's forgotten boys - 11.02.00
However, by the time I eventually got into punk rock, stories of the Rebels' exploits were legion, and I discovered a band whose music could stoke me out, even some 10 years after their classic albums were written.
Part of the reason the Rebels haven't been seen in these parts for a while is that they went across the Atlantic for a European tour in support of Nobodys Hero's.
Even without record-company help, the Forgotten Rebels have achieved longevity when so many of their peers have either self-destructed, faded into obscurity or just become really, really cheesy.

Still, for most of the war, fls who served in Confederate units did so in an unofficial capacity; rebel political leaders and army officers, like their Union counterparts, were split on the question of whether to enlist fls in the Southern army.

Forgotten Rebels singer Mickey De Sadist is a shining jewel in punk rock's crown and could well be considered the Al Waxman of Canadian punk.
Despite their meagre beginnings in Hamilton, Ontario, the Rebels would permanently bookmark themselves in punk rock history when, in '81, they released the punk classic "Surfin' On Heroin." In fact, the Rebels knew a good thing when they had it and actually milked the song throughout three different albums.
The Rebels' fl sense of humour has always been in the crosshairs of the PC cannon but as far as De Sadist is concerned, they have only fanned the flames for this tea-totaller from "the Hammer."

The second LP finds the revamped Rebels in a much more aggressive mood, cursing a lot and resembling Sham 69 on shoutalong choruses like "Bomb the Boats and Feed the Fish" and "In Love with the System." In spots, DeSadist affects an outdated Johnny Rotten voice.
A new gang of Rebels (DeSadist and guitarist Mike Mirabella are still in charge) cropped up in 1988 with an American album containing all-new recordings of previously released songs.
The vibrant, loud punk-rock sound recalls the Dead Boys or Generation X; low-brow/high-energy songwriting that crosses the Monkees with the Ramones gives the Rebels a solid basis for their polite blow-torch assault.

Still, while The Forgotten Rebels founder and singer Mickey DeSadist says the band has never actually packed it in, the Hamilton rockers' recent silence can only help fuel their comeback gig at Lee's Palace Saturday night, in support of their new album Nobodys Hero's.
It was the Rebels' mix of political rage and plain political incorrectness that put them on the map.

The nickname "Rebels" was given to UNLV athletic teams because the school, emerging from the shadow of the University of Nevada, Reno, in effect "rebelled" against its bigger and older brother to the north.

Mickey Gerlecki), guitarist Tony Madelina, drummer Angela Madelina, and bassist Carl "Chris Suicide" Johnson, and like most of the Forgotten Rebels' lineups, it was short-lived, as new drummer Pete "Treason" Latimer joined in between recordings and left just as quickly.
A long hiatus ensued, but the Rebels regrouped in 1994 with a surprisingly similar lineup -- DeSadest, Campbell, McGhire, and bassist Chaz Butcher -- and a new LP, 'Criminal Zero'.
After extensive American and European touring in 1998-99 the Rebels re-entered the recording studio and a new 15 song album is expected to be released early 2000, as well as a Tribute album of Forgotten Rebels material with band's from Canada, America, Brazil n Europe

Derivative but entertaining, Ontario's Forgotten Rebels delivered trashy glam-punk with the snottiness of the Sex Pistols, the dopey humor of the Ramones, and the big hooks of Gary Glitter and T. Rex.
Lumen was back in the fold for 1989's Forgotten Rebels (also known as Untitled), which also featured McGhire, new guitarist Jeffrey Dee Campbell, and an inexplicable new spelling for DeSadest's last name.

Tribal fighting is becoming a growing concern for U.N. officials, who say the clashes have killed more people than the conflict between government forces and rebels, with hundreds dead in the past few months.

The title track of this album is actually a FORGOTTEN REBELS song, and the BLIND PIGS do a bitchin' job with it, but you don't need to take my opinion for it - the long time guitarist of the FORGOTTEN REBELS, JEFF CAMPBELL, personally enjoys it.
DAVE sings DICKWART, and that's great to have a different REBEL take the vocal helm and croon (in a punk kind of way) out a song.
I like that the hand scrawled lyrics of the tracks are presented throughout the CD insert to observe, providing a closer interpretation of the lyricist.
