Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc., known to motor racing fans by its acronym CART, is the target of a buy-out offer from Menlo Park-based Open Wheel Racing Series LLC, a newly formed company owned indirectly by a group of investors including Gerald Forsythe, Kevin Kalkhoven, Paul Gentilozzi, Carl Russo and Motorock LLC.
Open Wheel Racing and the group of investors currently own 3,377,400 shares of CART common stock, all held by Gerry Forsythe or entities owned or controlled by him.
Open Wheel Racing is offering 50 cents a share for the rest of the stock.

HILLIARD, Ohio (January 17) -- American talent Bryan Herta has been signed to drive for the McDonald's Championship Racing Team in the CART FedEx Championship Series after Jerry Forsythe, chairman of Forsythe Championship Racing, agreed to release Tony Kanaan from his contract for the 2000 season.
Herta, who enters his seventh season of Champ Car competition, will make his debut with McDonald's Championship Racing this Wednesday as the team takes to the track with the new Swift 011.c chassis for the first time in a scheduled two-day test at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California.
Herta resides in Valencia, California, with his wife Janette and daughter Caly, 2.
