Fort Capuzzo wurde nach dem 2 Weltkrieg komplett eingeebnet.
Da es vom Fort Capuzzo nur noch drei Fotografien von 1941 gibt, ansonsten kein Bildmaterial oder andere historische Dokumente mehr vorhanden sind, bekam ich den Auftrag, die Ansicht des Fort Capuzzo vom Frühsommer 1941 (für eine historische Ausstellung in Rom) in einem Diorama für die Nachwelt nachzubauen.

Fort la Reine was a North Sands-class freighter built by Burrard Drydock Company Ltd. (South Yard), at Vancouver, BC She was completed in Jul 42.
Fort la Reine was one of 90 North Sands-class freighters built in Canada for American order under the Hyde Park Declaration and subsequently provided to Great Britain under the Lend-Lease Agreement.

Sqn withdrew and on passing SIDI AZEIZ, the Fort was seen to be in flames and a white flag was hoisted from the area of the Fort.
The fort at GARN EL GREIN (30 miles North of GIARRABUB) was being used as a staging camp for vehicles and it had been observed from the air that there was usually some MT in groups round the fort.
This fort is almost certainly to be the same one which was captured by C Sqn on June 22nd.

By the 20th, 7th Armoured, despite exhausted crews and vehicles, had seized Capuzzo and Sollum, but Bergonzoli had been able to muster a considerable defense in Bardia: four divisions of 21st Corps plus fortress troops, border guards, an anti-tank ditch, concrete blockhouses, and remnants of fleeing units.
Fort Pilastrino fumed out to be simply a collection of barrack buildings surrounded by a wall, and Australian infantry took it quickly.

Forts Pilastrino and Solaro did hold out for a while, but eventually the Port along with Admiral Vietina and 27,000 prisoners, 230 guns and some 200 vehicles, fell to the Australians on 22nd January.
This attack alerted the Germans at Fort Capuzzo, who greeted 'A' Squadron, 4th RTR, with a hail of shellfire, but eventually by 17th May the both fort and Halfaya Pass were in British hands for the loss of 160 British casualties, 5 Matildas destroyed and another 13 damaged.
At Fort Capuzzo 22nd Guard Brigade were nearly trapped by the advance and General Creagh ordered the surviving tanks of both 4th and 7th Armoured Brigades to fight a defensive battle.

Next thing of any consequence then was that a small force of Germans attacked the Fort from the south.
Were heading back to Capuzzo when we were told there was a composite Regiment to be formed, and we would be advancing as the Germans were on the run.

During the battle for Fort Capuzzo, Leakey's reconnaisance tank was lacking its armament, 2 Vickers machine guns; however, Leakey engaged the enemy anyways, by firing through the gunport with his revolver.
His gunner did the same, firing with a rifle.

Fort Capuzzo was quickly taken by the 11th Hussars, but a determined counter-attack by the Germans retook it.
The attack was underway on 18 November; the Desert Rats hooked around the open desert flank of the Germans and by 20 November had overrun the airfield at Side Rezegh with 6th RTR.

Shortly after the outbreak of the war against Italy on 10th June, the 11th Hussars (under Lt-Colonel John Combe) were ordered to dominate the desert between the main Italian positions at Fort Capuzzo and Fort Maddalena.
On 14th June, the 7th Hussars, with a company of the King's Royal Rifle Corp and a battery of 4 RHA captured Fort Capuzzo, while on the same night the 11th Hussars captured Fort Maddalena.
In July that year, the Italians re-garrisoned Fort Capuzzo, but still the Hussars, along with the light tanks of the 4th and 7th Armoured Brigades, still continued to patrol and raid as they wished.

Forts work similar to BUAs but give better protection (+2 def) and are harder to to attack.
I might be able to make forts, I have some random small bits of wood that could be bodged into a fort...

The fight alerted the Germans at Fort Capuzzo, who greeted the advancing tanks of A Squadron, 4 RTR, with a hail of shellfire.
Although the fort fell, it was quickly recaptured.

I ran the Fort Capuzzo scenario from the upcoming Bengazi Handicap book as a practice run for Fall In at a local small convention.
I was in the last session and only had one player so I took the Brits.
My model of the Fort with the German Staff stand in the door way.
