Fort Eustis and its satellite installation, Fort Story, are the home of the U.S. Army Transportation Center, U.S. Army Transportation School, NCO Academy, Army Aviation Logistics School, 8th Transportation Brigade and 7th Transportation Group (Composite).
Fort Eustis was reopened as a military installation in August 1940 as the Coast Artillery Replacement Training Center.
Locomotive #4635, a GP16, is used on the Fort Eustis Military Railway.

Fort Eustis is the home of the US Army Transportation Corps, which includes the Transportation Center and School, the Aviation Logistics School, and the Non-commissioned Officer Academy.
Fort Story, a major sub-installation of Fort Eustis, is located at Cape Henry, at the juncture of the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
Fort Eustis began operations in 1918 as a training camp and became a permanent installation in 1923.

Fort Eustis was known in colonial times as Mulberry Island.
On March 7,1918, the Army bought Mulberry Island and the surrounding acreage for $538,000 in response to World War I. Camp Abraham Eustis was established as a coast artillery replacement center for Fort Monroe and a balloon observation school.
It became Fort Eustis and a permanent military installation in 1923.

The 125th arrived in the the Republic of Vietnam on 4 October 1966 and was assigned to the 4th Transportation Command (Terminal C).
From the date of its inception until the spring of 1965, the battalion was stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia, where it provided support for the training missions of the U.S. Transportation School.
When it returned to Fort Eustis on 17 August 1965, the l59th assumed responsibility for operation of 3rd Port Complex and on 21 December was redesignated as a terminal battalion.
