The Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church is, in a sense, a granddaughter church.
The years at Fort Rouge were preoccupied with finding a location on which to build a new church and recruiting a permanent pastor.
Vital MB Church and in 2003 the senior and associate pastors left Fort Garry with a sizeable group of members to establish the Faithworks MB Church in the River Heights area of the city.

 MHS Centennial Organization: Crescent Fort Rouge United Church
Fort Rouge Methodist Church, the earliest founding church of Crescent Fort Rouge United, began as a mission congregation of Grace Methodist Church, which used to stand on the corner of Notre Dame and Portage in downtown Winnipeg.
In 1883, when the decision was made to found a congregation south of the Assiniboine River in the new Fort Rouge district, the area consisted only of scattered residences.
The Crescent property was sold in 1944 to the St. John Ambulance, and in 1943 the parsonage at 346 Stradbrook Avenue was sold and a new one purchased at 886 Dorchester Avenue.

After the flood of 1826 when the original Fort Garry was demolished, Govenor George Simpson (later to be Governor of Ruperts Land), for politcal reasons, decided to rebuild the fort downstream and in 1831 built Lower Fort Garry at its present location near Selkirk, Manitoba.
Both forts were named after Nicholas Garry, an important director of the Hudson's Bay Company, who assisted in the amalgamation of the HBC and the North West Company.
By 1853, the fort was proving to be too small for the increasing trade and it was extended to the north.
