  Forteana? What the heck is that?
Forteana realizes that the related sciences can only be truly understood if these rare, and not-so-rare, occurrences are understood as well.
An aspect of forteana that I find interesting is the level of non-acceptance of the events, let alone their relationship to reality, as compared to the acceptance level of the current state of physics.
In conclusion, Forteana is the study of anomalous phenomena, in all the sciences and in the behavior of people and society.

I was reading this story about the recent trip by a team of people who went on a trip to Mongolia to find the Death Worm, also known as Allghoi khorkhoi (which seems to translate to “intestine worm.”) They documented their trip (with some photos) on their blog Cryptoworld.
It’s almost certainly just a muntjac deer, but i’d love this to be something utterly bizarre, one of those freaks that stepped out of a rift of space-time a la the stories collected by Charles Fort.
No points for guessing the top story… the writer is quick to make a division between the orang pendek and Homo floresiensis, although they are still in the same entry for the story.

Since it seems to have fallen after 5,600 BC and the impact would have been that of a small atomic explosion, this event is well within human memory, and would be remembered in oral traditions for centuries to come.
I loved the crazy idea of unknown biological entities described as rods and orbs inhabiting the upper atmosphere of the earth, but it was not to be.

There is already a long-standing unmoderated forteana list for people who want the freedom to have non-fortean discussions with fellow forteans.
Of course, this may be because forteans tend to be fairly rational and are not as easily misled by their senses as the sort of people who populate the paranormal parts of the net.
However, if you wish to chat to fellow forteans in an unmoderated environment, there is still the forteana list (now also based at yahoogroups), and you are of course free to be on both lists.

Andy Silverman pointed out on the Forteana mailing list, perhaps the "civil war-type" projectile plummeted from Fort's hypothetical heavenly Super-Sargasso Sea--from which many eels have reportedly migrated back to solid earth, rather than liquid water.
These deaths are hardly classifiable as forteana, until you read the news from Reuters on Wednesday 3rd of December, of the body of a woman in her 30s or 40s, dressed in fl, which fell from somewhere on to a garden wall, resulting in massive fatal injuries.

One of the things that Mr Niyazov did when he came to power was to ditch the cyrillic alphabet imposed by the Russians, and decree that everyone wrote the Turkmen language in roman letters, like its near relative Turkish.
I suggested massaging the symbols into more letterlike forms, but they said that this would probably cause trouble (and no one wants trouble from Mr N), so I had to recreate all these deeply inappropriate things in their full horror.

The name is synonymous - and originates with - with Charles Fort who spent his entire life gathering evidence of strange phenomena.
