3D SPOTLIGHT - Guillemot Maxi Sound Fortissimo review
This time they are bringing us the Maxi Sound Fortissimo, a full-featured soundcard targeted to the budget conscious gamer.
A year ago Guillemot released a similar product but unfortunately they made a big mistake using the ISA bus, which is a major bottleneck for doing good 3D sound, this time however they have corrected that and they are using the PCI bus.
Unlike most of the “gaming” soundcards available in the market, the Maxi Sound Fortissimo isn’t based on any of the Aureal or ESS chipsets; instead they are using the Yamaha YMF744 chip combined with Sensaura 3D Positional sound algorithms.

Like I mentioned above, an interesting feature of the Fortissimo II is the addition of a single cable that connects to the din port on the back of the card then splits into four 1/8" jacks.

Most of the reviews you have read that were published prior to ours will have test the Fortissimo with the 2008 drivers from Guillemot and with those drivers you get only 8 3D channels for DS3D, A3D 1.X (converting to DS3D) and you get support for EAX 1.0.
The Fortissimo as mentioned has full support for both I3DL2 and EAX 2.0 when using the 2013 drivers (or later if newer drivers are ever released).
The Fortissimo combined with the 2013 drivers offers good EAX quality, definitely improved over earlier versions, but still behind the Live.

Apple has drawn a clear line in the sand when it comes to the minimum system requirements for Mac OS X; considering the new OS' heavy-duty multithreading, protected memory and other capabilities, it could hardly do otherwise.
