The Foundation Series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Forward the Foundation, the last novel Asimov wrote, continues the story of Hari Seldon and his family.
George Lucas used elements of the Foundation series to construct the universe in which Star Wars is set, including propulsion by hyper-drive, lightsabers (evolved from force field penknives), and the Galactic Empire (although Lucas' Empire was by definition evil, while Seldon openly says that in principle the First Empire is not evil).
This speculation, however, fails to account for the fact that the term Al-Qaida, Arabic for "The Foundation", was first used by the United States to describe followers of Osama bin Laden and is not used by that group to refer to itself.

"Forward the Foundation" Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-17)
IT IS POSSIBLE that the late Isaac Asimov knew when he was writing "Forward the Foundation" that it would be his last novel.
One of those recent novels was "Prelude to Foundation," in which the founder of "psychohistory," Hari Seldon (whose semi-mystical presence through a series of recordings played long after his death permeates the original "Foundation" stories), is presented as a young man embroiled in thrilling adventures.
Many reviewers hate reviewing books like "Forward the Foundation." There is very likely nothing I can say that will either induce you to buy the book or dissuade you from doing so.

The SF Site Featured Review: Foundation's Fear
Benford's novel opens during the action of Forward the Foundation, Asimov's last novel, between the first and the second section.
However, Foundation's Fear is not an Asimov novel and Benford uses this opportunity to expand on themes and characters he used in his short story, "The Rose and the Scalpel," which appeared in the Robert Silverberg anthology, Time Gate (Baen Books, 1989).
All of Asimov's descriptions of the study which was central to Seldon's life are vague, even in Prelude to Foundation and Forward the Foundation when Seldon is working out the specific laws of psychohistory.

All through the Foundation series we think of Seldon as this omniscient, greater-than-human figure that guides the future like a gentle grandfather...it seems almost impossible to see him as a normal man, but Forward the Foundation shows us how much of an ordinary man Seldon really was, and what an extrodinary life he led.
