The Sondheim Review - v1n1   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
When describing Fosca to Clara by letter, Giorgio originally sang, "The ugliness, God, the ugliness, of that poor unhappy creature." He now sings, "The wretchedness, God, the wretchedness." This was one of several changes used to make Giorgio more sympathetic to Fosca earlier in the story.
At the opening of the letter scene, prior to quoting Giorgio's "God, you are so beautiful" motif, Fosca originally was greeted with laughter when she sang, "I'm so happy, I could die," a plaintive paraphrasing of Clara's opening lyric during the love scene.
Fosca's fierce cries originally were likened to those of a cat in heat.

Splendid Magazine reviews Fosca: Diary of an Antibody
Dickon Edwards's Fosca is an unrepentantly arty band that puts as much thought into its music as its hair -- in other words, quite a bit.
Though this sophomore full-length lacks lead vocals from the ladies in the group (who were, in my opinion, the highlight of the group's recent EPs), it is the strongest album I can imagine coming from Edwards; each song is different, and none of them are exercises in new wave, Factory, or Sarah pop.
The appearance of such gallery charmers as the violin adds to the shape of the melody, transforming otherwise nasal vocals into the frame of choice for a Whiteread or Emin exhibit.

 Fosca Biography
Fosca was completed with the invaluable presence of two players who had both appeared on Nervous, London and at various pre-Alex Fosca shows.
One was Rachel Stevenson (synth, backing vocals, band organising), who'd first met Dickon in the audience at a gig - a show by Brighter, in fact - and the other Sheila B (cellos, rehearsal space), a Londoner friend of Rachel's and member of a 1960s-style dance troupe.
Due to various delays in the recording, an EP featuring the first three songs from the sessions was released in October, with Supine On The Astroturf as the lead track.

Fosca is the new band fronted by Dickon Edwards, previously of Shelley and more recently former Romo chart-outcasts Orlando.
While the debut EP sounded fragile and almost folky in its tunesmithery, the live sound is much brasher.
Although chords occasionally clash and harmonies sometimes miss, such charismatic songwriting and Dickon's pop star persona leave a better impression and show more promise than Clientele's more polished but soulless performance.
