  Found Art!
These mini works of art are left in public places -- tied on to trees, left on tables in restaurants or hospital waiting rooms, left in books being returned to libraries -- or given to friends, neighbors, strangers who look like they could use a smile.
Those who find the art log into the Found Art web site to find out more about the project and the artist.

Found art - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term found art—more commonly found object (French: objet trouvé) or ready made—describes art created from the undisguised, but often modified, use of objects that are not normally considered art, often because they already have a mundane, utilitarian function.
The use of found objects was quickly taken up by the Dada movement, being used by Man Ray and Francis Picabia who combined it with traditional art by sticking combs onto a painting to represent hair.
In the 1960s found objects were present in both the Fluxus movement and in Pop art.

Found object - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When found objects are used as part of visual art works, the resulting works are referred to as found art.
The use of found objects in modern music is connected to experiments in indeterminacy and aleatory music by such composers as John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen, although it has reached its ascendency in those areas of popular music most closely aligned with these classical movements, such as the ambient works of Brian Eno.
The use of found objects in music takes one of two general forms: either objects are deliberately recorded, with their sound used directly or in processed form, or previous recordings are sampled for use as part of a work (the latter often being referred to simply as "found sound" or "sampling").

 Clever Magazine, Found Art        (www.clevermag.com)
Found art collections are eclectic, ranging from artistic displays of everyday objects to elaborate collages of well-known and "authentic" artworks combined into some entirely new piece.
I'm reminded of the traveling art show of the vacuum cleaner incased in plastic and the small aquarium filled with floating basketballs, both of which I saw at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art.
And this may be the core or the essence of "found art." So found-artists make it their life's work to point out what otherwise would go unseen as those of us without their developed eye for art and keen insight into the artistic side of things.

However, when I work with the found object, it is a symbolic 'redemptive' act as I acknowledge worth, in the forgotten and discarded items all around us.
Chuck currently works with found objects, preferring 'urban detritus' and ephemera (twisted rusty metal, discarded paper, any items generally considered worthless.) Art studios everywhere bloom with this engaging accumulation, the unintentional by-product of creativity.
Found art has a range of purposes, from the simple pleasures of spontaneity to stimulating questions about the norms of art, but all of it invites us to notice that the so-called ordinary world is saturated with things that reward close attention.

This gallery of 'megadriftwood' (surrealist found objects) or naturally occurring 'driftwood art' was assembled from photographed pieces of driftwood in the northern California area, along the Pacific coast.
For surrealism, any object immediately becomes a found object when it is 1) serendipitously perceived or found by an observer, and most importantly, 2) when it coincides with the inner desires and imagination of the observer, as a concrete example of objective chance.
In recent centuries, 'Modern Art' has been completely alienated from the environment(s) that created it, but in these megadriftwood images, the alienation of art from the rest of reality is temporarily dissolved.

 Germany Info: Culture & Life
The three carvings provide evidence that humans of the Late Stone Age were already adept at figurative art and that this region of the Upper Danube River has been an important center of cultural innovation, said Nicholas J. Conard, an archeologist at the University of Tübingen.
One of the carvings, all made of ivory from mammoth tusks, resembles a bird, possibly a cormorant or a duck; the others seem to be the head of a horse and a figure half-man, half animal.
Conard said that the figuratives have been produced by modern humans, not by their relatives, the Neanderthals, some of whom were still living in Europe at the same time period.
