Found art - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term, found art, or more commonly, found object (French: objet trouvé) describes art created from common objects that are not normally considered art.
Found art derives significance from the context into which it is placed, thus blurring the traditional distinction of what is art, and what is not art, and challenges the nature of art.
Pablo Picasso used found objects as the basis for Baboon and Young.

Tate | Glossary | Found object
Found objects may be put on a shelf and treated as works of art in themselves, as well as providing inspiration for the artist.
Found objects may also be modified by the artist and presented as art, either more or less intact as in the Dada and Surrealist artist Marcel Duchamp's readymades, or as part of an assemblage.
Extensive use of found objects was made by Dada, Surrealist and Pop artists, and by later artists such as Carl Andre, Tony Cragg, Bill Woodrow, Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas and Michael Landy among many others.

Surrealist Found Objects: Rock Art / Surrealist Earth Art @ www.surrealcoconut.com
The final step in 'processing' these images was to remove the background or visual context from these found objects and to alter their color, so as to better enable their newly discovered function/meaning to be perceived by the viewer.
Generally, any found object or image is one that is encountered accidentally, and which is more a function of desire and imagination than it is of material need, say, of finding a coin on the street.
Likewise, the surrealist found object is also a source of nourishment and a beautiful antidote to the reinforcement of capitalist ideology that is latent within so many 'entertainment' products of popular, consumerist culture.

 Parshat Bo 5764 - Special Features - OU.ORG
If the object is found in a neighborhood where the majority of persons situated or passing through are Jews, then the laws of picking up and restoring found objects applies, assuming that all of the other criteria are present.
If it was worth a peruta when lost and also when found, the fact that it may have been worth less than a peruta in the interval between losing and finding does not affect the obligation of the finder to pick up the object.
If an object belongs to more than one person, the share of each in the object must be at least worth a peruta to obligate the finder to pick up the lost object to restore to the owners.

This gallery of 'megadriftwood' (surrealist found objects) or naturally occurring 'driftwood art' was assembled from photographed pieces of driftwood in the northern California area, along the Pacific coast.
For surrealism, any object immediately becomes a found object when it is 1) serendipitously perceived or found by an observer, and most importantly, 2) when it coincides with the inner desires and imagination of the observer, as a concrete example of objective chance.
This particular kind of surrealist object can be pivotal in enabling the seeker/wanderer to identify his or her own inner reality and innermost desires, especially through an external source.

 Found Object Assignment
Found objects” are objects that have been created for a purpose other than art, and are usually every day objects, easily recognized for a utilitarian function.
In simple terms, your task will be to find objects which you consider significant, and then to put them together in a unique way - transcending them thus to a higher level of visual understanding.
Do not let the beauty of the “Found Objects” seduce you to the point of forgetting that the final design must be more interesting than the elements that comprise it.

For instance, earlier this year, a Kuiper Belt Object (KBO) called 20000 Varuna was announced with an estimated diameter of 558 miles (900 kilometers), based on a calculated reflectivity of 7 percent.
The first Kuiper Belt Object was found in 1992 by David Jewitt and Jane Luu of the University of Hawaii.
These objects are believed to be remnants from the formation of the Solar System, and consequently are among the most primitive and least-evolved objects available for study by planetary astronomers.

In recent years, these strange, in-between objects have been found in so many bizarre configurations that researchers are scrambling to figure out whether they are dealing with one class of object or several.
The newly spotted brown dwarf was found using a relatively new technique called adaptive optics, which corrects for some of the blurring effects of Earth's atmosphere and allows faint objects to be photographed with resolution that can be 10 times better.
Follow-up images, using adaptive optics, showed the faint object moved on the sky along with the primary star, proving that it was in fact a companion and not a background star.

 CNN.com - Astronomers spy 'planetoid' half Pluto's size - Feb. 20, 2004
Astronomers said Thursday they have found a frozen object 4.4 billion miles from Earth that appears to be more than half the size of Pluto and larger than the planet's moon.
The object, dubbed 2004 DW, lies at the outer fringes of the Kuiper Belt, a swarm of frozen rock and ice beyond the orbit of Neptune.
Preliminary measurements suggest the object follows an elliptical orbit that takes it as close as 2.7 billion miles to the sun and as far out as 4.7 billion miles, Brown said.

Spaceflight Now | Breaking News | Newly found object could be leftover Apollo rocket stage
An analysis of the orbital motion of the newly discovered object J002E3 indicates that it could be a leftover Saturn V third stage from one of the Apollo missions, most likely the Apollo 12 mission, launched on November 14, 1969.
In other words, this object was very likely orbiting the Earth during this period before escaping into the heliocentric orbit from which it was captured in 2002.
Further circumstantial evidence suggests that this object is in fact the Apollo 12 stage, which was left in a very distant Earth orbit after it passed by the Moon on November 18, 1969.
