But Hari Seldon isn't quite finished yet, as David Brin (author of The Postman and the Uplift series) reveals in Foundation's Triumph, the closing volume of The Second Foundation Trilogy.
I've never been a huge David Brin fan, but with Foundation's Triumph he has made an impressive, thought-provoking addition to Isaac Asimov's formidable legacy.
Everything is well in hand, but there are a few nagging holes in the equations, including the mystery of the "chaos worlds," planets that undergo stunning technological and artistic renaissances only to collapse into violence and anarchy.

Picturing the Roman triumph: putting the Fasti Capitolini in context. - Apollo - HighBeam Research
The Fasti which recorded the roster of Roman triumphs were, in other words, inserted into a room already resonant with triumphal images; in fact, the observant visitor would have been able to spot the record of the triumph of Paullus among the surviving fragments of the Fasti on the adjacent wall.
Triumphs were dangerous, contested and liable to rebound on the same godlike generals who were honoured by them.
Although some commentators have identified it as the triumph of the emperor Aurelian over the Palmyrene queen Zenobia, the text of Silvanus, combined with the Republican theme of the room, makes it certain that we are witnessing Aemilius Paullus, the conqueror of King Perseus of Macedon, celebrating his victory procession in 167 BC.

Each chapter is a new era in the Foundation's history, and as people come and go, its logical imperative proceeds virtually unhindered; that is, until it is destroyed in the second novel, only for the Second Foundation to triumph in the third.
The book describes a hunt for the Second Foundation where the hunters may or may not have been controlled by the hunted, the hunted may or may not have been found by the hunters, and what seems to be independent thought and action on any of their parts may not be so.
Foundation is the first of the trilogy; it is set far in the future.

Attila Torkos has compiled his own Chronology of the Robot-Empire-Foundation Universe, which updates the timeline first published in David Brin's novel Foundation's Triumph.
The Timeline of the Highlander Universe compiled by I. They would simply be century upon century of the Foundation's growth and triumph under the direction of the Second Foundation, and really rather dull.
The existence of the Second Foundation had been a part of the series from the beginning, as was its location at "Star's End," but its exact nature wasn't clearly defined until it acquired its role as the Mule's nemesis.
Since the Foundation's ultimate success was guaranteed by psychohistory, there was a considerable lack of dramatic tension, and it was hard keeping the stories from contradicting each other.

Foundation's Triumph though may be an overstatement for when you read through the appendix about the future of the universe as forseen by the various authors that have contributed to it, one almost wonders if Foundation Established would be the better title.
Foundation's Triumph is just that, especially after the tedious, overlong first book (with its uninteresting Voltaire/Joan of Arc subplot) and the very good, very enjoyable but un-spectacular second book.

 David Brin:  Foundation's Triumph
At times, Foundations Triumph reads like a robot novel, with their heavy examination of Asimov’s laws of robotics, while at other times, Brin is writing a Foundation novel, looking at the politics of the empire’s fall.
Seldon’s awareness of the role of Olivaw and his own stage-managing of the future with the introduction of the Second Foundation is shown to be mere portions of the greater schemes.
Suddenly, the relatively straight-forward politics of the original Foundation series, as well as Asimov’s additions, are seen as only the surface of a Byzantine complex of attempts to guide the galaxy.
