Foustanella/Tsolias Worn by diplomats and warriors, this costume was declared the national costume for men; it is found in mountainous areas and was worn mainly in the Central and Southern parts of Greece.
The costume derives its name from the pleated white skirt (Foustanella) made by triangular shaped pieces of cloth called "langolia" which are sewn together diagonally.
The Foustanella skirt consists of 400 pleats symbolizing the years during which Greece was under Ottoman rule.

Most people who are familiar with Greece today will know of these colourful soldiers, wearing their Foustanella (pleated kilt) and pom-pom shoes, while fulfilling their highly disciplined ceremonial duties in Athens.
Our Evzones are based on a number of picture sources for the late 19th Century, including a particularly useful picture from the Illustrated London News.
We were, of course, tempted to design these figures in full traditional Evzone garb, complete with the Foustanella, but this would have been more appropriate for the earlier wars of independence, and we realised most gamers would find the field uniform more useful for this later period.

Actually the 'dress' was very common among the subjects of the Byzantine empire.
If you take a look at any icon depicting a saint you'll see that they wear a version of the 'foustanella'.
I was refering to the fact that since Epidamnus was founded by Hellinic colonists, this artifact doesn't support the Albanian origin of the foustanella, but could actually connect it to Hellas.
