Topic: Fox Armoured Reconnaisance Vehicle

FV101 Scorpion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Intended to be a fast and air-transportable reconnaissance vehicle, the Scorpion is built from mainly aluminium armour and mounts a L23A1 76 mm gun firing HE, HESH, Smoke, and Canister rounds.
With a 'footprint' lighter than that of a man, it was one of the few vehicles capable of operating in the extreme conditions of the Falklands land mass (wheeled vehicles had almost no use away from established roads).
The hulls have been reused with the turrets from the FV 721 Fox wheeled reconnaissance vehicle to form a new vehicle Sabre which is very similar in appearance to the Scimitar.

As part of the UK MoD's CVRT (Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance Tracked) rationalisation programme both the tracked Scorpion with its 76mm gun and the wheeled Fox with its 30mm Rarden Cannon were withdrawn from service and a hybrid vehicle - Sabre was produced.
Created from the body of the Scorpion, and the turret of the Fox the Sabre is fitted with the standard 30mm Rarden Cannon found on similar British Army vehicles of the CVRT class.
Modifications were made to the manually operated turret of the Fox to include redesigned smoke grenade launchers and the 7.62mm Chain Gun replacing the standard 7.62mm machine gun, for anti-personnel use.

The combat vehicle features armor protection equal to that of the battle tank and powerful armament capable of neutralizing and defeating antiarmor-capable targets and manpower, and operates in a common battle formation. These features help significantly increase combat effectiveness of tank units and decrease their losses from enemy close-combat assets.
