Foxtel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Foxtel were created to combat the threat posed to Telstra's local call business by the combination of Optus Vision (now known as Optus TV) content bundling with Optus' local telephony services.
Foxtel has also launched Foxtel iQ, a timeshifting personal digital recorder, in which subscribers are able to record programs onto a hard drive inside the set-top unit for later viewing.
Although TVN Racing is available to Foxtel subscribers it is not a Foxtel channel, due to Foxtel's exclusivity agreement with Sky Racing.

AsiaMedia :: AUSTRALIA: Foxtel faces snags after digital launch
Foxtel's ownership is also looking more complicated, after the Federal Opposition's communications spokesman, Lindsay Tanner, said yesterday that a Labor government would force Telstra to sell its 50 per cent of the pay TV group.
Foxtel's target of having the service in 40 per cent of homes by 2008 does not take into account a change in the Federal Government's anti-siphoning list, which guarantees that viewers will be able to watch most important sporting events on free-to-air TV until at least 2010.
Foxtel is disappointed that the Government has only removed a few events, such as local soccer, basketball and Hong Kong Sevens rugby, from the list.

Why can't the tuner card receive Foxtel?
Foxtel has both (and you don't say which you have).
However, you can rent a second set top box from Foxtel (I think it's around $20 a month) and put that next to the PC so you can watch a different channel to the rest of the family.
The Foxtel satellite set top box has some data ports on the back, and I'd be interested to hear from any readers who know if these can be used to feed the digital signal direct to the PC.

In his quarterly chat with reporters and analysts on Thursday morning, Rupert Murdoch didn't mention Foxtel, the Australian pay-TV operation that, stacked up against News' other interests, is just a small part of the empire, especially with attention turning to integrating Direct TV and using it as the platform for the next expansion.
Foxtel says this rose by 8.3% in the year, and the total number, including the wholesale customers, rose by almost 4%.
Foxtel revenues rose 18% to $767 million in the June year, that's a not too bad result and would have come from the combination of higher revenues from subscribers and some advertising.

He said he wanted to explore "would it be a misuse of market power or would Foxtel be entitled to do as it pleased?".
Foxtel was the largest pay TV retailer in Australia at the time.
