Foyle's War is superbly written with great acting from all the main characters (as well as supporting cast and guest stars) - in particular, of course, Michael Kitchen as the rather sobering Christopher Foyle.

Foyle's War a new release from Acorn Media, was first broadcast late in 2002 on the ITV network and written by the prolific Anthony Horowitz.
All in all Foyle's War is definitely a classy edition to the Detective Drama genre.

Anthony Horowitz: Well, Foyle's War was the result of the Network Center, who are the people of course who control everything we get to see on ITV, suddenly realizing they needed quickly a new detective series to go out on Sunday nights.
Poirot, etc. Ahh, the English tend to hide their emotions just as killers hide what they're going to do and the detective's job is to dig under the surface trying to find out what people are doing.
In fact, all the actors brought ideas to the table that had to get incorporated, but it wasn't planned mechanically as it were.
