Fragaria belongs to the family Rosaceae in which there are a whole lot of individual female reproductive organs, termed carpels, in the flower.
The Wild Strawberry or Wood Strawberry Fragaria vesca is native to the temperate regions of Eurasia and North America.
It is a hybrid between the domesticated Fragaria virginiana with its hermaphrodite flowers and tasty fruit, and Fragaria chiloensis with its large fruit.
