| | Light Framing (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01) |
 | | Light frame construction consists of joining load bearing framing members with sheathing to create building components such as floors, walls, and roofs, and specialized building systems such as shearwalls, diaphragms, load bearing walls, and permanent wood foundations. |
 | | Framing members, in the form of studs, joists, and rafters, provide reinforcing and support for vertical and horizontal sheathing, and are the main load bearing members conducting forces to the supports. |
 | | Framing entails the placement of light members at spacings of between 300 and 600mm (12" and 24") and in so doing creating a load sharing action whereby a below average member, through the rigidity of the sheathing, transfers excess load to an adjoining above average member. |
