Istria on the Internet - History
Croatian noblemen Ban Petar Zrinski and Duke Fran Krsto Frankopan were leaders of a failed revolution against the Habsburgs and were beheaded on April 30, 1671.
Indeed, Petar was still from time to time in favour in Vienna, keeping lively relations with the court through the offices of certain secular and ecclesiastical dignitaries, but it became increasingly clear to him that their offices were just dead letter and that the Austrian soldiery was perpetrating its crimes with the court's approval.
Although Krsto Vuk Frankopan was a prisoner in Venice, good relations with certain eminent dignitaries in that city continued to exist, the Frankopans being especially honoured there.
