Francesco Onofrio Manfredini (June 22, 1684 – October 6, 1762) was an Italian Baroque composer, violinist, and church musician.
He was a teacher for his son Vincenzo Manfredini, who also was a composer and music theorist and served to the Russian Imperial Court.
Manfredini became musical director at St. Philip's Cathedral in his home town of Pistoia, where he remained until his death.

Francesco Onofrio Manfredini was born in Pistoia in 1684.
The information of a journey to Venice is almost certain, and in the same period he probably had advantageous contacts with the Principality of Monaco: in 1711 prince Antonio I Grimaldi designated him Chapel Master and in 1718 Manfredini thanked the prince by dedicating him the printed edition of the concerts op.
There is no doubt about the stylistic belonging of Manfredini to the musical culture of Bologna, that he learned from Torelli, Laurenti, Perti and others musicians of the school of San Petronio.

He returned to Naples in 1708 at the invitation of a new Viceroy and it seems to have been in his later years, during his attention to purely instrumental music, after his long involvement with opera, serenatas, cantatas and church music.
Manfredini, Locatelli, Geminiani and Sammartini belong to another generation.
Francesco Manfredini, born in Pistoia in 1684, like Corelli studied music in Bologna, in the musical establishment attached to the great Basilica of San Petronio, where he worked intermittently, with a period seemingly in the service of the ruler of Monaco.

His father Francesco Giustini was the organist for the Congregazione dello Spirito Santo.
On July 21, 1695, Lodovico was made a member of this Jesuit-affiliated group and succeeded his father in the post of organist on July 10, 1725.
Giustini was named organist of the Cathedral of Pistoia in 1734 and worked there until his death under another member of his family, the choir master Francesco Manfredini.

Much that we know of Francesco Onofrio Manfredini is supposition and assumption.
We do know that Manfredini composed oratorios, but only his orchestral works remained in the repertoire.
The group of twelve Concerti Grossi were published in 1718, and dedicated to Prince Antoine, which may indicate that he was in the Prince's service in Monaco.

The virtuoso Italian ensemble of eleven strings and a harpsichord that Toscanini called "the world's finest chamber orchestra" has for twelve years been polishing its late-baroque repertory to a high luster.
Here the group plays concertos by pioneers of the form: Arcangelo Corelli (Concerto Grosso in D Major) and Antonio Vivaldi (the "Goldfinch" Concerto for flute and the "Favorite" for violin), also works by Francesco Manfredini and Tommaso Albinoni, a composer much admired by Bach.
The story that Handel wrote the Water Music to get back into the good graces of George I has been discredited, but such a scheme would surely have worked.
