NCAW Winter 03 Maura Coughlin on Millet's Milkmaids
Millet corroborates this sentiment in a letter of 1866 to Sensier, writing that the peasants of the Vichy region "are much more peasants than at Barbizon; they have that good, stupid kind of awkwardness which does not remind one in the least of the neighborhood of fashionable baths." Sensier/ de Kay, p.
Millet's own letters and pronouncements on his art invite a reading in which his rural origin functions as an index to the authenticity and personal resonance of his images, which, in turn, authenticate the genius and singularity of the peasant-painter Millet.
Millet's reference to Pieter Bruegel both connects his image to a venerable pictorial tradition that showed peasants' seasonal labor and expresses personal longings for a provincial motherland, the feminine space of unchanging tradition, the pastoral space of the anti-modern.

 RMS Titanic Information - TextSheet.com
No Titanic passenger list is known to be entirely accurate.) Among the victims were some famous people: Benjamin Guggenheim, Isidor Straus, John Jacob Astor IV,Jacques Futrelle, Francis David Millet, and Charles Hays.
An often-quoted (but unverified) story states that the person who received the radio distress signal from the Titanic was David Sarnoff, who would become the founder of media giant RCA.
It was also agreed in the new regulations that all passenger vessels would have sufficient lifeboats for everyone on board, that appropriate drills would be conducted, and that radio communications would be operated 24 hours a day along with a secondary power supply, so as not to miss distress calls.

 Frank Millet Revisited
Millet was in Rome to oversee the opening of the American Academy building, but cut short his visit to attend a meeting of the national Arts Commission which was convening in Washington, D.C. to discuss the location for the Daniel Chester French, Lincoln Memorial, which had been begun in 1911.
Millet’s vision, scope and talent crossed and overlapped into countless disciplines, arts and endeavors - his life,  the  stuff of which legends are made.
Outside of Titanic circles, and sad to say, even within the art community, Millet’s myriad contributions in many arenas of the visual arts are virtually unknown today.

 Abigail MILLET
Though no paper record definitely connects her to her parents, she probably is Abigail "Nabby" Millet, baptised at Fourth Parish in Gloucester (Essex Co.) MA on Oct. 25, 1772, daughter of John and Susanah (Emons) Millet of Gloucester.
This, I think, is the explanation of how Abigail Millet came to Freeport, how she met William Eells, and why there is no record in Freeport of her birth or parents.
Now it is true that in one census the age range was broad enough to permit another explanation, and in another census there was another female that could be argued to be a younger wife, but in each of those cases there was a strong counter-argument.
