MYSTERY! Malice Aforethought Author Francis Iles
"Francis Iles" was just one of the pseudonyms used by Anthony Berkeley Cox, a journalist and reviewer who contributed to Punch, The Humorist, the London Daily Telegraph, the Sunday Times and the Guardian during the years between 1938 and 1970.
Published in 1931 under the pseudonym "Francis Iles," Malice broke the crime fiction mold.
It was different in that the perpetrator of the crime was clear from the very beginning of the story, but it worked as a gripping and suspenseful tale nonetheless.

I've read all of Berkeley's novels (except for THE VANE MYSTERY and the last two Iles), and I've been very impressed by his prose style - in its wit and savagery it's often rather like Waugh, particularly JUMPING JENNY (probably only accidentally obscene) and TRIAL AND ERROR.
As it happens, Berkeley himself, in a 1947 radio interview about his Iles and Berkeley personans (personae?), explained why he signed it as Berkeley:
