Hardy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hardy is the name of some places in the United States of America:
Hardy also applies to plant hardiness, which describes a plant, shrub or flower which can survive stressful conditions such as poor soil, low rainful, or winter weather; typically, weeds are more hardy than cultivated plants thereby requiring countermeasures such as herbicides.
Less often, animals which can handle harsh conditions, such as camels, are said to be hardy.

Hardy's sound was as unfussy as her presentation.
Hardy sings softly most of the time (without going breathy), though her voice is surprisingly sturdy.
Listening to Hardy, I hear the Bee Gees singing, "It's only words," and the Beatles asking, "Why should I feel the way I do?" Words are only a small part of what Hardy uses to steal our hearts away.

 Biography - Françoise HARDY
In spite of the fact that Hardy's voice was neither extremely powerful nor strikingly unusual, the singer would continue to woo audiences throughout her career with her exceptional lyrics and the sheer force of the emotion which she put into her performances.
Hardy appeared to be completely unperturbed by poor album sales, preferring to find an audience who respected her true self rather than millions of adoring fans who were seduced by a superficial image.
Hardy invited a whole host of guest stars into the studio with her and the new album included a brilliant duet with the singer's partner Jacques Dutronc - whom she had not teamed up with on record since "Brouillard dans la rue Corvisart" in 1978.

Francoise Hardy Discography (Slipcue e-Zine French Pop guide)
One of the most striking French singers of the 1960s, Francoise Hardy is considered part of the bubblegummy ye-ye scene, though her moody, elegant records are not as bouncy or perky as the more prefab female singers, such as France Gall or Brigitte Bardot.
For decades, this was the most common Francoise Hardy album in America, an American reissue of some of her best early work on the Vogue label.
Hardy wrote only about half the songs on here, but all the music is in keeping with her personal style.

 Françoise Hardy: Clair-Obscur
Francoise Hardy has a deserved place among the great French sixties icons Jacques Dutronc and Serge Gainsbourg.
Hearing Hardy and Iggy Pop sing the "I'll be seeing you" is one of the great moments on this disc, while the Everly Brothers classic, "So Sad", with Etienne Daho, is bittersweet.
Hardy redoes one of her classics, " Tu ressembles a tous ceux qui ont eu du chagrin" into a perfect pop song.

Francoise Hardy; Jane Birkin - CD reviews - Music - Entertainment - smh.com.au
Subdued in tone, muted in its palette (tragic torch song; touches of gentle bossa nova; Air-like atmospherics), it is the sound of the sigh and the small shudder of recognition and the sense of a warm room whose only light is from a rain-sprinkled window.
Hardy joins Jane Birkin for the early evening stroll of Surannee on Birkin's charming and rewarding album of duets, Rendez-Vous.
While not quite the singer Hardy is, Birkin has always been more than the girlish counterpoint to former husband Serge Gainsbourg and his songs of crumbling decadence and corrupting love.

 CMT.com : Francoise Hardy : Biography
In the 1950s, Hardy was inspired by early rock recordings to pick up guitar, and was already writing her own songs by the time she was a teenager.
Hardy sang of young love with both fetching moodiness and unrestrained ebullience; although she often wrote both her music and lyrics, she often co-wrote tunes with others as well.
Charles Blackwell was the most notable and effective of these figures; in 1964, interestingly, she recorded some tracks under the direction of the great American R&B guitarist Mickey Baker (yes, the same one who played on Mickey & Sylvia's "Love Is Strange"), who was then based in France.

I saw Francoise Hardy in concert some time in the mid 60's, and you can imagine what sort of an impression she made on my teenaged self.
I had only heard of Francoise Hardy after her duet with Damon Albarn on the track "to the end" on the 1993 parklife album, so I was curious enough to buy this album.
Some say that Francoise recorded her best music after she left Vogue in 1967, but this compilation covering her early music from 1962 to 1967 is of a consistently high quality with presentation to match.

Although now in her 60th year, and without major international hits since the sixties, French singer Francoise Hardy is still a relatively prolific and popular music maker in France (her previous album 'Clair Obscur' came out four years ago, while this album has already gone gold).
Hardy's airy voice still sounds great too, suiting her sombre, yet dignified, "anti-diva" approach to music, which falls somewhere between brooding and "downbeat", although as any listener of contemporary French music (Air, etc) will attest, "downbeat" in this context translates to atmospheric, lush and sophisticated.
This is a classy album from a genuine French singing legend, and echoes other recent releases from international pop masters such as Marianne Faithfull and Leonard Cohen.

Francoise Hardy's sixth Vogue album "Ma Jeunesse fout le camp", originally released in 1967, may well be her least interesting 1960's release.
Hardy only wrote about half of the songs, and in most cases her own songs stand out.
Although many of the songs are tinged with a sense of loss, the sobriety is lifted throughout by the strong melodies, written by Hardy herself and a rich variety of collaborators.

 FRANCOISE HARDY / LA QUESTION
A melancholy and sensual chanteuse, Francoise Hardy made a name for herself crafting lush love songs of great sophistication.
Often characterized as aloof, the quietly self-possessed Hardy never allowed herself to be marketed on her abundant sex appeal.
In several places, Hardy substitutes melodic humming in place of singing, wordlessly articulating the emotional essence of the song.

Françoise Hardy - the Fashion Spot
Even if she weren’t strikingly beautiful, Françoise Hardy would be an icon for groundbreakers. In the mid 1960s, Hardy perfectly bridged two worlds with her boho sex appeal (straight hair, eyebrow-dusting bangs, acoustic guitar) and pared-down mod aesthetic (chiseled cheekbones, an intense gaze, a Courrèges wardrobe).
Her elegant, world-weary ballads like Comment Te Dire Adieu were obligatory listening for the cool cats and the hipsters alike, while her flickering charisma caught the eye of directors from John Frankenheimer (who cast her in Grand Prix) to Jean Luc Godard (who put her in Masculin, Féminin).
Decades later, with her recording career still going strong, Hardy is still hitting all the right notes.

It then shifts abruptly to the 80s, ignoring Hardy's enormous output from the late 60s to mid-70s; naturally, the change in style is also abrupt.
Although there can't be much argument with the chosen tracks, the cd running time could easily have incorporated several more songs more fairly representative of a career overview.
