Franjo Kluz (September 19, 1913 – September 14, 1944) was a Yugoslav soldier of Croatian origin, best known as one of the founders of the Partisan air force.
On October 14 Kluz became the commandant of the First Air Base of YNLA in Livno.
After the German offensive, Kluz and his 200 men were sent to Allied-controlled Italy, where they received training, equipment and aircraft from RAF.

After two unsuccessful attempts at the end of 1941, the pilots Franjo Kluz and Rudi Cajavec, with his mechanic Milos Jazbec, managed to defect to the partisans.
Kluz was accompanied by his mechanic Mitrecic, and equipped his (until then) un-armed Potez with a machine gun "Sarec" as well as with some pipe bombs (to be dropped by hand) that were produced by partisans at the "Ljubija" Mine (the largest iron ore mine in all of Jugoslavia).
Kluz managed to complete three more missions, during which he attacked with his machine gun and pipe bombs enemy transport columns and garrisons.

On September 19th 1942 Partisans in Dalmatia formed their first naval unit made of fishing boats, which gradually evolved into force able to engage the Italian Navy and Kriegsmarine and conduct complex amphibious operations.
In May 1942 pilots of two aircraft belonging to NDH air force, Franjo Kluz i Rudi Cajevec, defected to Partisans in Bosnia and later used their planes against Axis forces.
Although short-lived due to a lack of infrastructure, this was the first instance of resistance movement having its own air force.

In 1960 troop “Bratstvo i Jedinstvo” was established and within this worked the aviation troop “Franjo Kluz”.
The same year all troops were united into the scout association of the county district Osijek and that became the first county district scout organization in Croatia.
In 1968 troop “Franjo Kluz” became the Unit of aviation scouts, and at the time it was the only unit specialized in aviation in the country.

One of the first partisan pilots Franjo Kluz (the second was Rudi Cajavec), took off from this airfield on his last combat mission.

On 23 May 1942, Franjo Kluz with his Potez 25 no.7005 and Rudi Čajavec with gunner-mechanic Milutinom Miškom Jazbecom in Breguetu 19 no.4521 from 13th squadron from Banja Luka airfield, defected to partisans landing on Urije airfield near Prijedor.
Potez 25 had MG34 installed and Ivan Mitrečić was assigned as gunner-mechanic to Franjo Kluz.
First combat mission by partisan aircraft's was done on 4 June when Kluz in his Potez 25 bombed Ustashi units near village of Orahovo.
