Frank Gray was one of the new generation of Leeds United players of the mid-1970s charged with the task of maintaining the club's success after the Don Revie era.
Gray, younger brother of Eddie, joined the club under Revie as a 17 year old midfielder and made his debut in 1973, scoring a goal in his first start.
Gray also finished on the losing side earlier in the season when Forest were beaten in the League Cup final by Wolves, thanks to a single goal from unrelated fellow Scotsman Andy Gray.

In 1972 Jack Gray died at the age of 52, cutting short a career that included the design of over 30 buildings.
Two years later, in 1974, Frank's son Dennis J. Gray joined the firm, and for the next four years three generations of Gray architects worked together in the Boston Office.

The Forrest Alvin "Strad" Gray Papers is a miscellaneous collection which belonged to Frank Gray, 1855-1934, and his son, Forrest, 1884-1987, known as Strad, of East Calais, Vermont.
He is survived by three grandchildren, Diane Gray (Newcomb) Jacobi of Moreno Valley, Calif., Gene Leroy Newcomb of Bakersfield, Calif., and Don Forrest Newcomb of Los Angles, Calif.; six great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, all of California.
In addition, there are a number of negatives some of which Strad Gray identified (Doc 447:45), and examples of his experiments with stereo slides and stereopticon views.
