Iacobucci refuses to be drawn into those discussions or say how his replacement should be chosen, but he made clear his notion of 'dialogue' is a more respectful one than is currently taking place, and his idea of 'deference' doesn't mean giving in and accepting at face value what legislatures say.
A baseball fanatic and tennis buff, Iacobucci's tenure on the high court was also marked by his promotion of judicial education, collegiality, as well as more open relations with the media (the Canadian Supreme Court, whose hearings are televised, is one of the most accessible to media in the world).

LANCASTER HOUSE - Labour Employment and Human Rights Law Publishers
Writing for the Court, Justice Frank Iacobucci held that s.142(2) of the Alberta Labour Relations Code "reasonably supports two differing interpretations," in that the word "discharged" in that section could mean "discharged solely for disciplinary reasons," or could include both culpable and non-culpable dismissals.
In addition, Iacobucci held that a broad interpretation of s.142(2) was consistent with Supreme Court jurisprudence that "has recognized the broad remedial powers required to give effect to the grievance arbitration process," starting with Heustis v.
Iacobucci observed that there was "arbitral consensus" that the jurisdiction to substitute damages should be exercised only in "exceptional" or "extraordinary circumstances," but pointed out that "exceptional circumstances" can exist in discharge cases involving both culpable and non-culpable conduct.
