BOSTON — Right-hander Frank Lary was the first pitcher we remember dominating a team to the point where it almost was no contest.
Lary beat the New York Yankees so often — 28-13 lifetime record, including 7-0 in 1958 — he earned the nickname The Yankee killer.
Blue Jays starter Ted Lilly has a long way to go, but he’s moving closer to the dominance Lary took, mowing down the Boston Red Sox.

As for The Yankee Killer, in 1956, Lary went 5-1 against the Yanks.
Since he split two decisions in 1957, than means he won 13 of 14 (in 1957, 1958 and 1959) and 18 of 20 (from the start of 1956 to early1959) against the Yankees.
Like Frank Lary and the Yankees, Lopat started off just dominating Cleveland, winning 25 of his first 31 decisions (as of June 25, 1950) before “easing off” a bit and winning just 15 of his last 20.
