Pickersgill was executed by the Nazis on September 14, 1944, along with 35 other Canadian SOE agents, including Roméo Sabourin and John Kenneth Macalister.
Captain Pickersgill is also honored on the Groesbeek Memorial in the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands, and the University of Toronto has designated a Pickersgill-Macalister garden on the west side of the "Soldiers' Tower" monument.
Frank was the younger brother of the late Jack Pickersgill, a member of the Canadian House of Commons and a Cabinet minister.

Pickersgill suffered minor injuries but was sent to Fresnes Prison in Paris where he was tortured repeatedly.
Pickersgill was executed by the Nazis on September 14, 1944, along with two other Canadian SOE agents, Roméo Sabourin and John Kenneth Macalister.
Posthumously, the government of France awarded him the Legion of Honor, and as one of the SOE agents who died for the liberation of France, he is listed on the "Roll of Honor" on the Valençay SOE Memorial in the town of Valençay in the Indre departément.

However, fluent in the French language, John Macalister volunteered for the Special Operations Executive F Section where as an agent in France, his thick glasses would actually add to his disguise.
Together with fellow Canadian, Frank Pickersgill, John Macalister was parachuted into occupied France on June 20, 1943 to work as wireless operator for the "Archdeacon" network in the Ardennes area.
Unable to get anything of value from him, the security forces shipped John Macalister, along with Frank Pickersgill and Roméo Sabourin to Buchenwald concentration camp on August 27, 1944.

On Sept. 15, alumni veterans from the Soldiers' Tower Committee and members of 2 Intelligence Company of the Canadian Forces honoured John Kenneth Macalister (BA 1937) and Frank Pickersgill (MA 1939) with a brief ceremony at Soldiers' Tower.
Pickersgill, trapped by the war while bicycling around Europe and imprisoned in a labour camp with other enemy aliens, had already escaped the Nazis once.
They refused, and Pickersgill nearly managed to escape again, disabling one guard with a bottle, rushing others and throwing himself out of a second-storey window onto a Paris street, where he was shot and recaptured.

The two men were tortured by the Gestapo, who wanted them to pretend to still be free, and so encourage more SOE personnel to parachute in and be captured.
Pickersgill never gave up hope of escape, at one point disabling a guard with a bottle and leaping out a second story window, before SS guards shot him four times and recaptured him.
Buchenwald survivors said Pickersgill continued to try to keep his fellow captives' spirits up to the very end, telling bad jokes and encouraging them to march in step like soldiers.

One of those remembered with no knowm grave is Frank Pickersgill, brother of Member of Parliament, Jack Pickersgill.

A local farmer reported the incident and as a result 500 members of the SS were sent in to search for the special agents in the area.
On 20th June 1943, Rudelatt returned to the area to pick up two new SOE agents, Frank Pickersgill and John McAlister, who had just been parachuted into France.
They were stopped by the SS and although they tried to race away shots were fired and Rudelatt was hit by two bullets before the car crashed.
