Frank Prewett: a Fragment of Biography
Frank Prewett was born near Mount Forest, Ontario, in 1893, and was brought up in Toronto.
Prewett’s dedication to poetry was thoroughly tested during his year of repatriation to Toronto.
Prewett here is admitting his attraction and appears to be asking Muriel to wait for him, but beneath the teasing of the fourth tercet lies a subtle equation of ambition with suspect taste, and a suggestion that even before Prewett left for the war, he was rejecting the materialism of the life in Canada.

Prewett's parents, Arthur Henry Prewett and Clara Hellyer, moved to the mid-western United States shortly after their marriage on May 29, 1888, but they later returned to Wellington County to farm in the area in which Clara's ancestors had been pioneers.
Prewett had been frequently requested by medical authorities to admit himself to hospital for tests and rest; he was, understandably, easily upset by loud bangs and claps of thunder.
Prewett's work could be extremely technical and often contained detailed and complex maps, graphs and tables, appendices, and photographs; it was quite a departure from his poetic works of only a few years earlier.
