  Splendid: Features: Frank Black
Going to a Frank Black concert a couple of years ago was one of the peak experiences of my life.
Frank Black: Yeah, I think that's pretty common; there are guys who have been doing it for a while, who are on indie labels.
Frank Black: Yeah, I was going to leave them out, but my wife said that a lot of the fans like it, so I'd better leave it in there.

Bio: Inverting his stage name from Black Francis to Frank Black, the former Pixies lead singer/songwriter embarked on a solo career after he broke up the band in early 1993; actually, he began recording his solo album before he told the band the news.
Black's second album, 1994's Teenager of the Year, was a sprawling and diverse album that amplified all the best points of Frank Black.
That fall, Frank Black Francis, a double-disc set of early Pixies demos and reinterpretations of Pixies songs by Black and the Two Pale Boys, arrived in the midst of all this activity.

No, nothing like that: you pull a Frank Black (or a Black Francis – which is how he was called before) and you write history by announcing the band’s break-up on BBC’s Radio 5.
Frank Black was very much anticipated, but it became clear very soon that the fans were in for a vastly different ride this time.
It should’ve been trimmed a bit (obviously Black himself thought otherwise – witness the second album) and it needs a few more stunners to be regarded as a classic, but Frank Black’s best moments proove there was an afterlife for the man who’d stop playing a leading role, while never succumbing to pap either.

Like many of Frank Black Francis' compositions, I was lukewarm on this album at first, particularly since I thought the double album was gratuitous, even for this incredibly prolific man. Now that I have given it a few listens, though, I have to say I love it (like almost all his compositions).

Frank Black - Fastman Raiderman (Album Review)
Featuring 27 tracks spread across two discs, it’s safe to say that Frank Black’s Fastman Raiderman contains a little something for everyone save for those fans of the Pixies who have been perplexed by the myriad of avenues that he has pursued since embarking upon a solo career in 1993.
Right from the start, with the beatnik groove and Van Morrison-esque chorus of If Your Poison Gets You, it’s clear in which direction Black is headed, and the bulk of the album is kissed as much by the sad-eyed wistfulness of country as it is by the radiant passion of southern soul.
Yet, for all of the distinctive textures that Black employs — and, ambitiously, the full range of the Americana spectrum is represented — each of the endeavor’s two distinctive segments inevitably becomes a tad too monochromatic for the outing to function as a whole.

The spirit of a child runs through the poetry of Frank X Walker's latest collection, "Black Box." Walker's virtual absence of punctuation replicates the feeling of memory swirling in incomplete images and patterns, although each episode is fully realized.
Thus a young, rural fl boy recalls his parents, grandparents and ancestors who originally settled the land, built the rock walls and dug in the coal mines.
