Popular Music and Society: Frankie Ford. Ooh-Wee Baby! The Best of Frankie Ford. - sound recording review
Rather than capitalizing on his dark-eyed, dark-haired image as a teen idol in 1958, Ford attempted to craft a crooning career based on increased repertoire flexibility.
While such low-talent vocal performers as Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Jimmy Clanton, and even movie idol Sal Mineo parlayed their smiles, dimples, and pompadours into record-charting success, Ford sang to ever-dwindling audiences on regional bus tours and in small New Orleans cabarets.
But it is Frankie Ford's powerful pipes that make "Alimony," "Roberta," "It Must Be Jelly," and the frenetic "Sea Cruise" sail so strongly.

Ace enjoyed several national hits in the late 1950s, such as Huey "Piano" Smith's "Rockin' Pneumonia & Boogie Woogie Flu," a series of Jimmy Clanton hits, and Frankie Ford's "Sea Cruise," but by 1962, Ace's fortunes were on the wane.
Ace was to be maintained as a separate label with Jimmy Clanton, Frankie Ford and Huey Smith as artists, and Vincent was also to produce for Vee-Jay.
This marriage produced only one hit of note, Jimmy Clanton's "Venus In Blue Jeans." Within months of the signing of the deal, Vee-Jay was beset by their own problems, and Vee- Jay essentially collapsed in 1965.
