Franklin, the county seat of Robertson County since 1879, a town of kind and friendly people, lies near the geographic center of the county, on an upland prairie that is drained by the branches of three creeks.
Franklin is a market center for the entire southeastern quarter of Robertson county, encompassing several rural communities and settlements.
Franklin came into existence in 1880; however, there was a small town, Morgan, at its present location a decade before, and the vicinity was considered a part of "Old Franklin" as early as 1838, when the wilderness village was the seat of a vast county under the Republic of Texas.

Lane reluctantly accepted his party's nomination to run for mayor of San Francisco in 1903, and the election turned into a bitter three-way contest splitting the labor vote between Lane and incumbent Mayor Eugene Schmitz, the Union Labor Party candidate.

In a third case, Lane was hired by an incarcerated client to seek a writ of habeas corpus, but he failed to perform legal services competently or return unearned fees.
In mitigation, Lane was deeply remorseful for the misstatements he made regarding the deposition in the probate case.

Franklin Knight Lane was born on July 15, 1864, on his father's farm near Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, the eldest of four children, all born within a few years.
Lane's eagerness in discussion and love of large and sounding words made the students call him "Demosthenes Lane." In his letters it is easy to trace the gradual evolution from his early oratorical style into a final form of free, imaginative expression of great simplicity.
Lane's first majority in 1898 of 832 votes was increased to 10,500 in 1899, when he was re-elected; and two years later he won by a still larger majority.

In 1914 Mather complained to Secretary of the Interior Franklin K. Lane, a former classmate at the University of California, about the way the parks were being run.
Unfortunately, Mather shortly had to be hospitalized for one of several bouts of depression he suffered over the years, leaving the youthful Albright to organize the bureau, obtain its initial appropriations from Congress, and prepare its first park policies.
The policies, issued in a letter from Lane to Mather in May 1918, elaborated on the Service's dual mission of conserving park resources and providing for their enjoyment by the public.
