 Franklin Township
The township is bordered on the north by Grand Lake Saint Marys, forming a very irregular boundary, on the east by Auglaize County, on the south by Marion Township, and on the west by Butler Township.
Franklin Township is six miles across from east to west and is about three and one-half miles from north to south.
The five one-room school houses in Franklin Township were the Klosterman School on Guadulupe Road, Center School on State Route 219, Franklin School on County Road 219A, Liberty School at the corner of St. Johns Road and Clover Four Road, and Montezuma School in Montezuma.

Streams that begin in Franklin Township are either tributaries of Elk Creek to the west and north, or Cussewago and French Creek to the south.

Franklin Township received grants of $5,000 and $8,750 over two years from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission to take, transcribe and compile digital videotape oral histories from our 70, 80- and 90-year old residents.
With modern surveying methods, Franklin Township was actually determined to be 5.22 miles from east to west and 5.52 miles north to south, consisting of 18441.8 acres.
Franklin Center, or Franklin Corners, as it was called in the post office directory of the time, lies eight miles from Girard, Fairview and McKean, five miles from Sterrettania and 17 miles from Erie.

Franklin County is located in the second tier of counties west from Missouri, and also in the second tier south from the Kansas River.
The county is divided into townships as follows, the area of each in square miles being in parenthesis: Appooanse sic (51); Centropolis (39); Hayes (30); Franklin (36); Peoria (36); Cutler (43); Pottawatomie (40); Richmond (34); Williamsburg (72); Greenwood (36); Ottawa (48); Harrison (29); Ohio (46), and Lincoln (36).
At an average depth of from twelve to twenty feet, good limestone is found, well distributed throughout the county, and in some portions sandstone, which, however, is generally too soft to be of much value for building purposes.

In 1991 the Trustee and the Township Board made a move to improve services and reduce operational costs by consolidating the three separate fire departments into the newly formed Franklin Township Fire Department.

1803 to 1808: The area of Franklin Twp was in Columbiana County.
An 1880s brick church located in front of the cemetery was set on fire by its pastor in the late 1980s and the damage was so severe that the structure had to be torn down.
Township trusteees purchased the property which is now part of the cemetery.
