Franklin, the township in which Kent now is, comprising 16,000 acres in 1798, was bought for twelve and a half cents an acre, or $2,000, by Aaron OLMSTEAD, of Hartford, Conn.
PORTAGE COUNTY was formed from Trumbull, June 7, 1807; all that part of the Reserve west of the Cuyahoga and south of the townships numbered five was also annexed as part of the county, and the temporary seat of justice appointed at the house of Benjamin TAPPAN.
Population of Portage in 1820 was 10,093; 1830, 18,792; 1.840, 23,107; 1860, 24,208; 1880, 27,500 of whom 19,940 were born in Ohio; 1,476, Pennsylvania; 1,115, New York; 112, Indiana; 81, Virginia; 24, Kentucky; 918, England and Wales; 750, German Empire; 561, Ireland; 165, British America; 104, Scotland; 46, France, and 22, Norway and Sweden.

 Franklin Township, Summit County, Ohio
Franklin was the site of several early villages: Manchester (the first to be formed, in 1815,) Savannah and Clinton (both 1816,) Orradeen (1835) and Pumroy (1837.) Today, only Manchester and Clinton remain, although Clinton is now an incorporated village, outside of the township’s boundaries.
The Franklin Township Board of Trustees chose to honor the impressive achievements of its native son, the late George H. Sisler, by naming its newly-acquired park, at 800 West Nimisila Road, in his honor.
Franklin Township has grown to a current population of 16,721, based on the 2000 census.

 Edwin Warren Alkire
Following the return to Ohio he lived in Delaware county from 1871 until 1881, when he was married and came to his present place, taking charge of the farm for William Sharpe.
Alkire is a stalwart republican and served for three terms of three years each as trustee of Blendon township.
He was also for four years a member of the village council and in the fall of 1907 was elected township trustee, in which position he is serving at the present time.

 Central Blendon Cemetery
Central Blendon Cemetery is located at the corner of Hempstead Road and Dempsey Road in Westerville, Ohio (Blendon Township, Franklin County).
There are two historical markers at the Central Blendon cemetery: one was erected by the Ohio Historical Society and the other by the Franklin County Historical Society.
It is very well taken care of by the Blendon Township Trustees, and many of the old gravestones have been restored.

In 1805 his parents removed to the country near New Albany, Plain Township, Franklin County, and when Jesse was in his eleventh year, in 1812, they again removed, this time going to Mifflin township, where they lived upon a farm, and where both died in the fullness of years.
He served as county commissioner for Franklin County one term - 1853-5, and was quite often elected township trustee, assessor, land appraiser, and to various other minor offices.

Mitchell, S.A. Mitchell's County and Township Map of the State of New York, showing the adjoining portions of New England, New Jersey and Pennsylvania with their internal improvements.
The township surveys were used by DeWitt in compiling a map of the north-central part of New York State in 1792, the first sheet of a six sheet map completed in 1802.
Several of these wall-hanging county maps were subsequently published by Robert Pearsall Smith of Philadelphia, who conceived a plan to use these and other commissioned county maps to prepare a revised, geodetically correct map of the State in the Burr Atlas tradition.

It was one of ten Franklin Township school districts enumerated in 1838 and recorded in the Town Book of Franklin (manuscript, Kent State University Libraries, Archives and Special Collections).
The township's enumeration for 1838, however, is missing from that work.
