It is a seaside suburb on Port Phillip Bay, 41 km southeast of Melbourne CBD.
Frankston is bounded on the west by Port Phillip Bay, on the north by a complex border featuring Overton Road and a number of golf courses, on the east by a freeway reservation, and on the south by Robinsons Road, Golf Links Road, Towerhill Road, Overport Road, Jasper Terrace and Warringa Road.
Frankston's development was hampered by poor soils, distance from Melbourne, and the existence of a major swamp occupying much of the area between Mordialloc and Seaford.

 Time for a Future Adolescent Depression Program
Time for a Future has attracted much local interest with over 250 telephone enquires and promotional articles have been published in The Geelong News and Frankston's The Independent.  To date, a total of 149 young people and their families have been seen by the program with 119 entering treatment.
A further aspect of the Time for a Future program involves the training of GP's, psychologist, social workers, and other professionals involved in the care of young people in the assessment and treatment of adolescents with depression.
Participants attend a series of four workshops after which they can be involved in the project by providing therapy to young people and their families.  To date a series of workshops have been conducted to date involving GPs from Geelong, Barwon  region, Frankston, Rosebud and Mornington Peninsula.
