When I first heard Franz Ferdinand, it was the Darts of Pleasure single released last year, I wasn’t impressed with them and they were in my eyes (at the time) consigned to the ages as being average at best.
The album itself is based heavily on a cross between 80's rythmo-pop and rock, influencing themselves heavily by bands like Joy Division and Gang of Four and more recently The Strokes, British Sea Power and to a lesser extent The Fall and somewhere deep inside there is a little bit of The Coral.
Despite the clichés, Franz Ferdinand are one to watch this year, I can only see them going from strength to strength, because despite it being so early on into the year already Franz Ferdinand seem to be the benchmark to aim for by any debut album release this year.

With Franz's second album, we continue to hear about parties and girls, but their development is increasing as they begin to venture farther from their disco rock roots, this is especially prevalent in "Eleanor Put Your Boots Back On".

I saw Franz Ferdinand open for Interpol about a year ago, but to be honest, I don't remember them at all.
Truth is, although Franz Ferdinand pays an agreeable nod to a few bands that have come before them, they have developed their own unique sound and comparisons will undoubtedly fall short.

As such, this album is a rush of catchy tunes that sound right and hint at pop music sounds although it's actually been produced in a rock style, aka 'Is This It?' by The Strokes.
Franz Ferdinand chose their name after watching a horse race with a competitor called Archduke.
Restrained in the context of the album certainly isn't bad, the exact opposite applies when the song in question is as 'proper' and great as 'Walk Away'.

That's the report from this album, which does a lot to lock in that M.O. As it turns out, Franz Ferdinand, like many an effective singles band, are immensely more lovable when they're on top of the world.
