Franz Alexeevich Roubaud died in Munich in 1928.
Roubaud left the mankind his very rich heritage: a lot of sketches, about two hundreds of battle and other paintings and three big panoramas of battles.
His last panorama of the Borodino battle, the top of his art and talent became a monument to the heroes of the Borodino battle, a symbol of deep gratitute of descendants to the heroic deeds of ancestors that could defend the independence and honour of their motherland.

Panorama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Barker's Panorama was hugely successful and spawned a series of "immersive" panoramas: the Museum of London's curators found mention of 126 panoramas that were exhibited between 1793 and 1863.
In Europe, panoramas were created of historical events and battles, notably by the Russian painter Franz Roubaud.
In the US, the experience was intensified by unrolling a canvas-backed scroll past the viewer in a cyclorama (noted in the 1840s), an inflation of an idea that was familiar in the hand-held landscape scrolls of Song China Panoramas were only eclipsed by the moving pictures.

Franz Roubaud's Taking of Gunib Aul was one of the worst.
After disappearing from storage in another Chechen gallery in 1999, it was found in 2000 by federal security services on the Chechen border in the hands of thieves who were trying to smuggle it out of the country wrapped in a carpet.
Roubaud is said to have travelled to the area several times to research his images of the conflict, and this is reflected in the detail.

But in Roubaud’s poem the multiples of nine are followed by a Coda entitled Rien (‘Nothing’), whose short lines, justified at the right margin, the white page conveying the total emptiness conveyed by the words, concludes with sunset:
Roubaud’s ‘investigation’ begins by probing le précipité des ressemblances, since any word or image, Wittgenstein taught us, is part of a language game made up of family resemblances.
To translate Roubaud into English is to subordinate oneself to the original text just as Paul Matisse remains as faithful as possible to the Duchamp originals.

Friedrich W. Block: Digital poetics or On the evolution of experimental media poetry
The beginnings of computer-based literature did not happen in a vacuum, nor - as is often believed - do they lie in American hyper fiction in the late eighties.
Background for this were the statements of the "workshop for potential literature" (OULIPO) whose members Paul Fournel, Italo Calvino and Jacques Roubaud were concerned with different procedures of "computer-aided creation processes".
In keeping with Franz Mon (1961) these are "Texte in den Zwischenräumen" - texts in the spaces in between.

There is an acultural aspect to literature and art which it is hard to accept wholeheartedly.
I was just thinking of getting down to writing about him, based on a passing comment I saw calling him a 'wayward genius'.
Throwaway line, perhaps, but made me think of Howard Bloom's 'the true artist swerves as he falls'; of Perec's maxim from Klee ('genius is the error in the system'); and now of your idea of Roubaud, succeeding through constraining himself to writing about failure.

Bemberg’s Ca fait peur aux oiseaux has drunk deeply from Reynaldo Hahn — or maybe the influence was the other way around - and brings with it intimacy and a kind of keening head voice (his head voice was not always perfect but it was invariably sensitively deployed).
His Arcadet shows the jaunty, masculine side of Clément’s nature and he can easily encompass the folkloric charm of Weckerlin as well as the desolate strangeness of parts of Roubaud’s Il est d’étranges soirs.
His Hahn has plenty of brio and style and the more famous settings by French contemporaries are all idiomatically and convincingly enunciated.
