FranzvonBayros (1866, Zagreb, Croatia - April 3, 1924, Vienna, Austria) was an Austrian commercial artist, illustrator, and painter best known for his controversial "Tales at the Dressing Table" portfolio.
VonBayros belonged to the Decadent movement in art, often relying on erotic themes and phantasmagoric imagery.

FranzvonBayros died in Vienna1924, at the age of 58.
A brilliant draughtsman, vonBayros kept the candle burning for the Decadents more than a quarter of a century after the death of Aubrey Beardsley in 1898.
The novel “Venus in Furs” is seen as a prototype for the writings of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch and his wife Wanda, as well as for masochistic phantasies in general.
Based upon Sacher-Masoch's novel Richard Freiherr von Krafft-Ebing, the Grazer physician (1840-1902), coined the term “masochism” in his medical standard work “Psychopathia Sexualis” (1886) as the description of a sexual disposition combining pain and lust.
His contemporary Richard von Krafft-Ebing (1840-1902), also a resident of Graz, took the theme which occupied Sacher-Masoch all his life and translated it into the concepts of sexual psychology.
The boy’s considerable artistic talent was recognized pretty early on, and yet his father could never come to terms with his preference for pen and ink graphics and forced him to study traditional oil painting with a number of conventionally trained teachers, who inevitably failed to do justice to his intrinsic capabilities.
Feeling that his style was desperately cramped, young vonBayros eventually transferred to an art academy in Munich, and then to another one in Vienna.
Apart from numerous bookplate designs vonBayros created illustrations for editions of Manon Lescaut, La Bohume, The Arabian Nights, The Decameron and The Memoirs of Fanny Hill, as well as for such exquisitely titled erotic volumes as Fleurette’s Purple Snails, Tales at the Dressing Table and the Small Foot of the Gracious Lady.

Bayros has drawn much more liberal folios, than this one for Richard Strauss, but it can serve as a good example of what was considered as pornographic then.
An edition of the complete works of Bayros, along with the previously described Exlibris, will be published under the title "Happy is who forgets" by the Viennese Bayros-Researcher Michael Gryksa in 2002.
This title refers to the oil-painting of Bayros "An Evening with Johann Strauss", in which FranzvonBayros painted himself in between the images of Johannes Brahms and Max Kalbeck.

Gertrude Bodenwieser was born in Vienna, Austria in 1890 and died in Sydney, Australia in 1959.
She was strongly influenced by contemporary thinking on movement and the body and cites François Delsarte, Jacques Dalcroze, Bess Mensendieck, and Rudolf von Laban as major influences.
Artists she collaborated with included FranzvonBayros and Felix Albrecht Harta, who was a member of the Hagenbund group and under whose auspices she performed her first solo recital in 1919.
