Enhanced access to Fratton railway 3 station does not appear to have been considered.
This is a strategic matter and I feel more specific provision should be made for expansion of Fratton Park so as not to prejudice the options available to the Football Club in meeting the requirements of the Taylor Report.

Railway enthusiasts can also act as eyes and ears against railway vandalism, and as such should surely be encouraged to do so by the supply of adequate information such as is found on this website.
The information on these pages is supplied for the benefit of railway enthusiasts who carry out a harmless hobby, and through the medium of photography and video, actually promote the railway industry.

The nearest railway station is Fratton (funnily enough) which is 0.6 miles from the ground.
Fratton Park is in Southsea, which is a nice residential seaside bit of Portsmouth to the east of the city centre.
The capacity of Fratton Park is now only 19,214 and it looks quite outdated, as the only stand built in the post-Taylor report era is the Fratton Stand, which was opened in October 1997.

Lone Wolf's Den - Portsmouth Were and Fur Meet II, The Report
Back to Fratton station to collect Solulo and Lunariia, who had been at school all day, before a return to the T’ai Fu and the plushie cuddling, only this time with four of us instead of two.
After a further spell of Jelly and Nutella eating, and Solulo quite literally getting a taste of her own medicine, it was sadly time to go back to Fratton station to bid farewell to Lomax and Sarah, who, combined with Ragtag, Sci and Torne, had all seemed to have enjoyed themselves immensely.
So I went back to Chik’ki’s house, just down the road from the station, to be met by a mountain of Tiger plushies and posters all around his 6’ by 6’ bedroom, which even the most serious Fur couldn’t resist picking up and cuddling.

There was an intermediate station at Coleshill (renamed Maxstoke by LMS from 9 July 1923) For a time the line provided through services off the London and Birmingham Railway to Derby and into Birmingham Curzon Street, but this traffic had changed to other, more direct routes before the end of the 1840s.

 pompey-fans.com - Story
Fratton railway station is within easy walking distance and regular bus routes serve the area from most parts of the city.
While increasing the capacity to 35,000 shouldn't be problematic - Fratton has held 36,000 in the last 20 years - taking the capacity beyond that may prove more difficult, as the proposed site for the stadium could prove too small and traffic concerns may be raised.
On the present prosed site behind the Fratton End (see picture) there is some doubt whether this could fit a 50,000-seater ground - should it ever be deemed necessary - or that the city council would grant planning permission for such a capacity.

 Southsea Railway, Fratton
The Southsea Railway operated for 29 year on a one and a quarter mile track between Fratton Station and its terminus at Southsea.
In July 1914 as the treat of war loomed extra sidings were needed at Fratton to deal with the traffic so the Southsea Railway was closed and used as overflow sidings.
In 1904 as economy measures the main station buildings were leased out and were used by motor engineers for many years.

On the west side of the link road, adjacent to the railway, a brick wall and/or railings 1.8 metres high and a 4 metre landscape margin is proposed.
It is essential, therefore, that the Fratton Goods Yard link should be of an adequate standard, not only to serve the development but also to function as a through route on the Strategic Network.
An extension to Fratton Park Football Ground is also proposed along with provision for other leisure related uses such as indoor bowling, swimming or ice skating.

The LPC suggested neighbourhood boundaries of the railway line to the north, to the east Victoria Road/Fratton Road, to the south King’s Road/Elm Grove and to the west Landport Terrace/Hampshire Terrace/King Richard 1 Road and Anglesea Road.
To the north of the railway line lies the retail heart of the city (Commercial Road and the western end of Arundel Street are pedestrianised shopping areas with branches of many major multiple retailers) with other commercial and non-residential buildings together with areas of more modern urban regeneration housing.
To the south of the railway line is an area of dense housing of mainly Victorian origin known as Somers Town.

Portsmouth Pubs - Closed or Demolished Houses
Located on Fratton Road, at the junction with Sheffield Road, the Unicorn was typical of post-war pub architecture in Portsmouth, built cheaply and quickly in a similar design to the Salutation on New Road (see below).
Located at the corner of Cottage View and Railway View in Landport, this pub was closed in the 1980s and converted to residential use.
Built in Brewers Tudor style with Cogswell's familiar witch's hat tower, it eventually succumbed to the inevitable, a victim of the local arsonists who were presumably unable to appreciate the only beautiful building on their doorstep.

[PORTSMOUTH, The Hard interchange, Hampshire] - CPFC Bulletin Board Services
The Hard is by Portsmouth Harbour, probably a mile and a half from Fratton Park, not that far and a 5 min train journey away.
I suggest that if you come into Portsmouth on the M275, as soon as the coach comes off it, you mosey up to the driver and ask him where Fratton Park is, is it far from The Hard etc and he might even drop you off to save you the hassle.
The bus is ok, but it's probably better to avoid it as it's used by the Pompey locals on match days, and the roads are sometimes closed to traffic around Fratton.
